hi my name is tatiana and i am 21 years old i was daignosed with ibs almost exactly 1 year ago in february that is when my symptoms first appeared before that i would go to the bathroom almost 3 times a day everyday. now i have ibs- c so they tell me. i go usually once a day but still feel like i have to go more, even though the amount is usually enough i am bloated all the time constantly it never gets relieved, i had never felt that before now this is where i am confused fist off i never get pain i mean once in like 3 months ill have slight mild i would not even call it pain. i have never experienced pain with this. and two, i have this sausage shaped lump that moves up and down what i inhale and then exhale i can move it. it lies at the lower part of my abdomen and my cecum, which is the first part of your colon, in the right lower quadrant is distended as well. i have had a ct scan and an ultrasound last april and nothing came up. so i guess these lumps are my bowels full but i have never heard of that symptom in ibs patients and from what i see and hear ibs usually is accompanied by pain. and then again i am not going to the bathroom as much but still go once a day religiously in the morning. now i quit smoking 2 to 3 weeks before the symptom started i heard smoking is a stimulant and makes you go so that could explain the decrease in stools. not having great bowel movements was normal when i was little i would have pellet like stools all my life and then started going normally when i started smoking now sometimes pellet sometimes normal never diarrhea. is this ibs or is this chronic constipation? now the bloating is the symptom that really irritates me bloating and distention. actually i just have distention from the lumps in my bowels gas sometimes but nothing out of the ordinary. im confused they say i have ibs but do i fit the criteria? can a person have ibs with no pain at all?

Hi there, I'm not really sure if a person can have IBS and no pain. I suppose anything is possible with this condition! Have you seen a gastroenterologist? Or had a colonoscopy? That would rule out other things like IBD – Crohn's or Colitis. But those conditions are usually associated with pain, too.

Sorry I don't have more of an answer for you. A lot of people read the posts but won't post an answer if they don't know what to tell you. If I have an answer – or even just an opinion – I jump in. But there are a lot of posts I don't respond to either – usually because that particular symptom or problem doesn't apply to me, or I just plain don't know the answer.

I hope someone else can help!

I have both IBS and Colitis, both diagnosed, but not any pain (nowadays anyway, I did to start with when eating the wrong foods). However the distention, bloating, gas etc still appear regularly. I do follow Heathers diet and that helps alot but I would strongly recommend a colonoscopy to find out what that sausage thing is and also if you have any inflammation, which will cause the distention and bloating. I also have c but can control it with Heathers diet so I do go every day. This doesn't stop me from having colitis which is an inflammation of the colon. Special meds are needed to treat this..I urge you to get the colonoscopy and follow Heathers Diet and see how you get on.

You need to see a doctor immediately and probably get a colonoscopy. I have been on Heather's diet for over a year now and have many, many days without pain now, but I was in major pain for years before I found this website. I still have gas, bloating and distention regularly, however. I feel soooo much better now than I did a year ago so I stick to the diet, exercise and take things one day at a time.

See a dcctor.
