I have a cold...Is there anything I can take that wont bother my IBS? I'm sneezing, coughing, my throat hurts and I have a headache. Plus I am having a superbowl party tommorow and need to be well enough to entertain! I have one more question... do any of you eat sorbet? I read that it was ok. So I bought a pint of fat free raspberry sorbet. Well I ate some last night and around 3:30 am I woke up with bad cramps. I went to the bathroom and had "D". I wondered if it was the sorbet or what? I did eat like half the pint! Argh, I have such a sweet tooth, so I was hoping that sorbet would have been a good alternative. Thanks for your help!

Re: a cold - a few drops of oil of oregano in water or juice really kills germs. Echinacea. Hot water with honey, lemon and ginger for the throat. Also gargling with warm water and salt for the throat. Actifed to dry me up. Hope you feel better

Re: sorbet - really depends on the ingredients. Fat-free stuff might have some crazy additives in it. What brand was it?

Good luck with your party!

Generally sorbet is just sugar, fruit and water. But anything you do when you have a cold (I have a humdinger right now!!!) makes you sick. I always get D from a cold. I have tried avoiding orange juice and not taking meds and all sorts of things but it is the being sick itself that gives you D. We discussed it before here and that was the general concensus.

Some commericial sorbets contain HFCS or fruit juices that are high in fructose which could have caused the problem.

i just had a bad cold and, yes, i had a bunch of D because of the virus. it didn't matter what i ate.

1. use neti pot nasal rinse (natural method to decongest sinuses) himalayaninstitute.com i think that's where i ordered mine.
2. make tea with water, a lemon wedge, a tb of honey and a dash of crushed red pepper flakes.
3. use humidifier

Thats really interesting that a cold now causes me to have D. This whole IBS stuff it just crazy sometimes. I never used to have issues like this. I looked at the container of sorbet and it was Haggen-Daas all natural... it just had sugar, raspberry puree, water, corn syrup and fruit pectin. I'm glad its not the sorbet because I really like it! Unfortunetly, a lot of remidies for a cold seem to be to use honey and I am allergic to it. I'm gonna take some tylenol for my headache, but I used to take phenelephedrine (sp) for my sinuses...I am thinking that might not be a smart idea anymore. Also vitimins, cough drops and stuff like that seem to bother my stomach. Do any of you take over the counter things like Tylenol cold and cough? Thanks again guys!

I take Robitussin (the green one) for a cold which is really just guafinesin, the same ingredient in Mucinex. For some reason the strong cherry liquid Robitussin gives me a similar effect to taking Nyquil or something like that and "opens me up" so I can sleep better. I also use Afrin on occassion if I feel a sinus infection is looming. Drink lots of water and take immodium if you have to for the d. You need to stay hydrated. Feel better.

I have been super sick with a cold since Wednesday and I basically just say the hell with it and take whatever will help me get through the cold. Since I have tried to take nothing before and still got sick, now I just take everything. But one good safe thing is Traditional Medicinals Throat Coat tea.

Mucinex was followed by D in my husband two separate times and did it to me at first. And the stuff doesn't seem to work as well as Robitussin. Robitussin has sucralose and other sweeteners though.

People I work with recommend putting vicks vaporub on your feet and covering with socks and sleeping like that. I was told this morning it would make me better. It sounds ridiculous. BUT it is safe for IBS.
