So I was diagnosed to be Lactose Intolerant when I was about 13 so I stopped eating any dairy, whey, casien, etc and all my problems seemed to go away. I am now 25 years old and have been having horrible stomach aches and all that good stuff that goes along with it for the past couple months or so... My doctor tells me that I have IBS, but did not run any tests on me for anything. I am thinking about going to a gastro to have a colonoscopy but don't want to do it unless I really need to. Anyone have any input? Has anyone had a an MRI or Catscan to find out anything important?

I have been diagnosed with an incredible amount of allergies as well. Cow Dairy, Guar Gum (seriously), Tomatoes, Onions, Garlic, on and on. I too was told to quit eating any dairy products about 7 years ago, and felt great for a few years. I was then diagnosed with IBS, but was just told to reduce fried foods and take more fiber. About 6 months ago, I went to a strict boiled chicken and plain baked potato diet for a week and slowly began to add one item back to my diet each week. I was so sick. I have had colonoscopies, endoscopies, CT scans.....you name it. Everything comes back as normal. Very frustrating. I think that a colonoscopy is a good preventative measure. I just think that traditional doctors know so little about IBS and it is up to us to investigate and find out what we can do to help ourselves and others.

For me, the IBS diet works, but it can be pretty tough. Recently I began taking Prilosec daily, and I must say that I feel better than I have in many years. I did this based on my own research, even after my GI said after the last endoscopy that he saw no signs of GERD. Maybe it is psychological, maybe not. I will try anything if it will help me to eat more than boiled chicken and plain potatoes.

I've got food intolerences too - it's a pain, but one tip that I was given was to rotate foods. I know from experience that when you are told you can't eat certain foods you cling to foods you can eat with dear life, and I tended to over eat them, which in turn gave me the intolerences!!! DOH! So I've now been told to rotate my foods, even though it's a pain in the backside, it's definitely worth doing xx
