hi all

sorry it's been so long i've just finished with finals and trying to resume back to a normal life until class starts again.

any way, i've been having a major problem with an external Hemorrhoid, which my dr says is not that large, but honestly, i do not care as it is rather painful...ok EXTREMELY painful....those of you who have them know what i'm talking about.

off and on for the past 3 months i've been using tea tree oil, analpram, anamantle, sitz baths, and medicated wipes to help, but all have miserably failed (though the tea tree fixed a fissure). i am going to discuss with my dr. what can be done to remove this hemme, but incredibly anxious about the pain involved in the procedure. i know that they can be cut out, have botox injected, lasered, or have an agent injected that makes them scar. if anyone has had any of these procedures could you please give me some advice as to which one is better or if you had any complications? i am not sure about the option to turn them into scars or have incisions as i tend to keloid scar (big scars like africans) which can make the problem potentially worse. i had a mole removed on my shoulder and the mole was small and flat and now i have a huge scar that i have taken injections in to flatten and might have to see and plastic surgeon to remove. it is painful in hot or cold temps. i've also seen many "natural cures" posted on the internet for these hemmes which i really don't trust.

i'm very scared, but i know the pain involved on a daily basis is about as bad as it can get...though i admit rectal surgery while conscious has the added benefit of embarassment. i have my ibsd under control, and now this has dampered my day.

thanks in advance
amy

Try boosting your Vitamin B complex with added B-6. In many alt. med books I've read it is one highly recommended remedy. I've tryed it and it works for me. Also, don't LIFT anything heavy, and of course no straining when you have to "go"....
Have you tried good old fashioned Preperation-H?

Hi Amy, I had hemorrhoids something terrible way back in 1978, when my brother told me he go rid of his hemorrhoids by using "Wet Ones" whenever he went to the bathroom. I tried them, but they didn't seem to help much, so I used "Preparation H" along with the "Wet Ones." After awhile, the combination of both shrunk the hemorrhoids down sufficiently that they never bothered me UNLESS I stopped using the "Wet Ones" every time I went to the bathroom. I did not have the surgery to remove them because they weren't that big (just painful). I can say to this day I'm rid of them -- BUT I still use wipes every single time I go to the bathroom, only now I use "Always" wipes instead -- they're made for women only and you buy them where you buy tampons. By the way, my husband has since developed hemorrhoids and also has begun using "Preparation H" wipes and is using cream as well to shrink them. He said he found "Anusol HC-1" cream works better than the "Preparation H" cream; you can buy it over-the-counter at Safeway. He said he's feeling a lot better since he began the Anusol and REGULAR use of the Preparation H wipes. Try them! Bev.

Queenie:
It depends on how bad your hemmie is. Is it thrombosed (is it purple and hard)? If it is, you will have to have it surgically removed. I had a hemorroidectomy back in September. I had prolapsed internal/external hemmies, on of which was thrombosed. The surgery was sooo painful, but so worth it. You need time off following a surgery like this too and an amazing pain tolerance for wehn you have BMs for weeks afterwards. But mine was major surgey, and they took a lot of tissue out. For you, I think it would be signoificantly less painful and recovery would be better/faster. There is a new procedure out now, I think it's laser, and recovery is supposed to be much faster, and pain is supposed to be so much less. For the short-term, make sure you don't strain! Are you C type? Eat the fiber! Also, warm baths with lots of salt(with no soaps, parfumes) help. I also find that dabbing on some witch hazel really soothes and make even shrink the hemmie. Also, using an over the counter anesthetic really helps. I used nupercainal. Ask your pharmacist. Preparation H never worked for me, but again mine were BAD. Best wishes.

thanks for all the info.

i am ibsd, though i have only had 1 d attack in the past 2 weeks. i've been "normal" in that manner, but have had lots of abdominal cramps and bloating. i guess if it isn't the form it gotta be something else. my symptoms have been changing a lot lately. somedays it's bloating, cramps or nausea...but the pain is pretty mucht he only "normal" thing in various forms.

i have been using witch hazel to clean along with everything under the sun. i don't know if the hemme is purple or not, can't see that but i do know that it isn't hard like a rock. it also bleeds everytime i go.

i will try preparation h, but the last time i shooped for it i noticed it had shark oil. as a vegetarian, i won't use anything with animal byproducts. so i'll go back to the store tomorrow and see if they make a version without it.

next time i see my doc (3 weeks) i'll ask her to give me all my options for treatment. last time we discussed it she said i'd have to see a rectal surgeon for removal so perhaps i'll go ahead and try to find one in my insurance policy and call to see what methods they use.

thanks again

amy
