When I cramp up from an attack, it's always on my lower left side.

Yes I also get pain in that area and my lower back will be achy. Sometimes a heating pad or hot bath helps if I'm at home. If my lower left side hurts for a long time I know that I'll be running to the bathroom in the near future!

i get the pain on my right upper and left lower, my back pain does worsen. I vote for the heating pad and a strong cup of fennel tea-helps every time!! Maryh

When I first went to my GI doc, before I had my colonoscopy to confirm his diagnosis, that was one of the first questions he asked me, and when he poked around that was the most painful area, which to him confirmed his belief that I had IBS. A heating pad helps, but a hot bath does even more for me. Bev

I know if my lower back is aching and then my left side starts to cramp I am going to have a bm within 5-10 mins. It is my warning sign!! I too use heating pads but for sure warm baths with a bit of bubble bath (foam) and candles makes me feel a whole lot better. Also when my husband rubs my back makes me feel better and warm all over!
