The second best soluble fiber supplement, when you can't take acacia for some reason, is FiberSure (tm), which is pure/purified inulin, made from chicory root. There's a table comparing doses of Heather's Organic Acacia Tummy Fiber (tm) with FiberSure, at the following URI:

http://www.formytummy.com/2007/06/30/ok-to-take-fibersure-every-day/ For My Tummy.com Comparison Chart. The chart makes it easier to switch from one to the other. They are not exactly equivalent in dosages.

All the best,

You can check out this page for info on the various SFS available and what issues may arise with some of them:

web page

For example, psyllium and inulin may cause bloating; Metamucil is part SF and part IF so it may be appropriate for IBS-Cs like you but not for Ds and so on. Also be sure to check labels for artificial sweeteners.

I think SFS is a very individual thing so you may just have to try different ones until you find the one for you.

Try Benefiber with wheat dextrin. There are some research claims that it produces less gas than other SFS.

Tell us what you finally try and how it goes.
