I was browsing in my local Boots yesterday when I spotted containers of Benefiber under a 'NEW! banner. As far as I was aware, prior to this the only SFS sold in UK shops was Fybogel and plain psyillium husk. Personally, I am quite happy with my Acacia which I buy from this website, but the exciting thing is... perhaps the UK is waking up to IBS at last. I really long for the day when Acacia is available in my local HFS - and, who knows, maybe even Boots?!
What is the soluble fiber in the UK Benefiber? In the US it is wheat dextrin and in Canada it is inulin. I was wonder what Novartis did with the formulation in the UK

As far as I could see on the tub, it was just wheat dextrin. I didn't spot inulin. However, I know inulin is used as an ingredient over here in some brands of chilled soy milk. Am I right in thinking it's not tolerated by all IBS sufferers?
Thank you for the information. I contacted Novartis in Canada to see why they use inulin here instead of wheat dextrin. Apparently it is simply related to cost and not the effectiveness of the type of fiber. This was a serious disappointment
