I have an experience that I don't understand...this is the second time it's happened. I told my doctor the first time-he is a good doctor who also has IBS but didn't really comment on it.
This is an EXTREME pressure on my bottom when going to the bathroom that feels like it's going to be constipation and HURTS SO BAD that you think you're going to pass out and sit there and literally cry from the pain, but when you finally go, there is an HUGE amount of very soft stool. It made NO SENSE why it should have hurt so much?!
Is the fact that the stool is so soft that my body has trouble passing it? I take approx. 1 scoop of Citrucel and about 6-9 Citrucel tablets a day. I also take a stool softener. I go back and forth between C and D.
I had a colonoscopy Monday and all was clear! He did say that there may be some inflammation in the small intestine that could be causing some of the problems and I will hear back from that in about a week.
Any info that this is "normal" (if ANYTHING could be considered "normal" with IBS) would be good news. I'm scared and mad with all the changes this has made in my life over the past 10 months!

Hi there!
I just want to say I'm sorry you're going through all this!
Some inflimmation...could it be something other than IBS? I don't think inflimmation and IBS go together...
I hope you get better soon!
*hugs*

No, I can't say I've ever had this problem. My IBS is the diarrhea-predominant variety, and I don't think it's common, Steph. It does sound like there's something else going on. Good luck! Bev

I don't believe inflamation is a part of IBS but I DO experience the pain and soft stools you drscribed. I believe the pain is due to the colon cramping, I will sit and cry from the pain for about 10 minutes, than it all comes out pretty quickly and lots of it. Than I feel drained and weak for a few hours. My tummy will feel sore, like I was kicked for hours. I go through this 1-2 times a week Its no fun but I've come to think of it as normal for me. I just switched to Heathers Acacia tummy fiber this past weekend and I'm hoping that will help this, will let you know.

What is Heather's "acacia tummy fiber"? I thought she liked citrucel and kept a supply of fibercon in her purse and in her car. Have you noticed an improvement with the acacia tummy fiber since your post? Bev

You described it to a "T" I have been weak for the rest of the morning-almost shakey. I wish you the best with this too-I know how you feel! Please let me know about the Acacia. Did you use Citrucel too?

Thanks for the hugs! I thought that inflammation meant Crohn's? I'm waiting impatiently now on those results. I haven't heard anything about the Celiac test so that's "good news" according to the Dr.

I have IBS C, but I take miralax which causes me to have D a lot! Since I started the acacia, my BMs have been formed, still soft but much more normal than usual. I haven't been as gassey or bloated either. Its only been 5 days so I'll keep posting and let you know how it goes. I have also been taking 2 peppermint capsules a day.

Hi Michele,
How is the acacia working for you? It's been awhile now -- any improvement? What dosage are you on?
I started on the acacia about a week ago, but on a very low dose (2t/day). Day before yesterday I started increasing to 3t/day, then yesterday had real severe cramping (which ironically went away after I had my p.m. dose). ?? I'm wondering if I started increasing my dosage too soon.
How are you doing?
Bev
