I need some advice--I am pregnant and currently going into my sixth month. For the first part of my pregnancy I had really bad IBS-C and had to adjust my diet because I am normally IBS-D. Well, I'm back to my IBS-D ways and I wanted to try and take flax seed oil supplements because I read that the omega-3 fatty acids are good for a baby's brain development. Yet my stomach has been so unpredictable and sensitive lately that when I tried a supplement out today, I got really bad D. Of course, the D could be related to other triggers, but I wanted to ask whether anyone has had success with or would recommend not taking flax seed oil supplements with IBS-D. Thanks in advance for any help you can give!

I tried taking Flax Seed Oil a while ago and it caused bad D every time.
If you want to try it, maybe just use a small amount (like 1/2 tsp) rather than the recommended dosage which as I recall is much more. Take it a few times a day instead of all at once.
Another thing you may want to try is ground flax seed. I sprinkle it on puddings, soy yogurt, salad, etc. in small amounts. I also mix it into some breads and dough. It has a nutty flavor so be wary of what you mix it into!

I don't know about IBS effects, but Flax does have an estrogen like component to it. I seem to be really sensitive to anything that has estrogen in it - Flax and soy make me feel like I have PMS all the time, so as a public service, I stopped using it. Anyway, since you are pregnant, I would check with your MD to make sure it is OK before you add any supplements.
