Hello. My name is Magi and I'm from Gloucestershire in the UK. I've lived with what I now know is ibs for many years, probably since my mid teens - believe me thats quite a while ago now!!!! I came accross Heathers book 'The first year' while idling away a bit of time in a book shop recently. I'd always known that I could have an effect on my problems by watching what I eat but had basically just learnt to eat what didnt make me ill. Also I'd put up with any reactions to treats when I had had enough of being good and needed to treat myself! What an eye opener I found in that book. I've tried having things, that before I would avoid, by going with soluble fibre first and its made a huge difference. I still avoid dairy and fats but thats okay. I've only been on it for about a week and already I feel amazingly better. I feel like I've been bloated since I can remember but this week I've discovered that I actually have a waistline!!!!!! Well, thats me - no-one special - but truly grateful for browsing that book shop (and finding this website). Hopefully I can look in whenever I find a spare moment and keep in touch. Thanx for listening. Bye for now.

Hi Magi,
Can I ask, did you get your bloating under "control" with diet? Do you battle diarrhea or constipation?

Hi, Jordy. I got my bloating under control with diet alone and I swear by fennel tea.I actually quite enjoy it now!!!!!I have noticed (today for example) that the odd slip off the 'good food' wagon brings my bloating right back into play. It seems that for years I've had to have antacid tablets after a meal, a locum doctor said that this was fine and that it was just 'how I was made'. I didnt think to question this! Even if I hadnt eaten I felt tight and windy nearly all day but Ive felt great for a few days in a row now. Was hoping for my weight to drop too but sadly no!!I get constipation with my ibs which is not great but it at least means I can deal with things better at work especially as I work in a staff canteen!! As I said, bad day today but that chocolate was just yelling to be eaten - oh well, at least I know.
