I just need to vent about something. I started off IBS-D, have switched to A, but I am usually pretty stable and can tolerate a lot of things that some other people can't. One thing I love is decaf iced coffee which I drink with splenda and a little milk ( I know... 3 usual triggers, but they don't bother me!). I get it everyday at starbucks, but twice in the last month or so they've given me REGULAR coffee instead of decaf. The second time was this afternoon, and I'm still hopped up. Caffeine is one thing I can't tolerate AT ALL. Not only do I immediately have to go to the bathroom, I get jittery, anxious, my blood sugar drops, my muscles twitch and I can't sleep until about 10 hours after I've had the coffee. Last time this happened, my usually tolerable bowel activity was out of whack for 4 days! I'm so angry. I know it would be safer to just not take the chance and give up the coffee altogether, but it's something I really enjoy and look forward to and I don't feel like I should have to give it up cuz when it's actually decaf, I'm totally fine! Sorry so long-winded but my mind is on overdrive right now.

I hate to be a pain when ordering food, but it really sucks when they get it wrong too! Maybe you could try saying you have a medical condition and can't have any caffeine? I think people tend to pay attention more when it is something medically related (such as an allergy). You don't have to say what the medical condition is either!

I know how you feel...that bothers me too! And I hate to be a difficult customer, too. I'm like you, I can tolerate some stuff that others can't.....i.e. a little mozzerella, steak (as long as it's a leaner cut) and COFFEE! And I look forward to my Starbucks coffees, too (with soymilk, of course:) ). Anyway, just letting you know I hear ya!

Thanks for the commiseration. I went back to Starbucks today and mentioned my experience to a supervisor (in a nice way). She seemed very sympathetic and apologetic and gave me a free coffee. Hopefully, they will be a little more careful in the future now.
