For some odd reason, and I have calmed a little (but I am furious), the IBS has gotten out of control the last five days.

My C has gotten exponentially, EXPONENTIALLY worse to the point where it feels like it before I went on Heather's diet.
My stomach is swelled like I just ate a steak and cheese sub; excpet I did not.

I have been severly and chonocially c, the worst in a year, the last five days.
I'd like to know if there is anything I can do to improve or am doing wrong, because after re reading posts and the book I am dumbfounded.

A. Diet
-No dairy, low fat, alcohol
-Small meals
-80 oz of water
-Soluable fiber
-Fiber foods daily
Oat bran w/applesauce
Bowl of Spinach
Canned Pears
2 utensial spoons of Benefiber daily
1 scoop Miralax daily

There has been no change in medication, I've been taking my pre biotic and probiotic the same.
I don't get what I am doing wrong or what else I could do.

I thought perhaps having honey chex ceral, which is lowfat, MIGHT be the problem since it contained almond ingedients, eliminated it for two days, no difference.

I'm getting the same fiber and enough as before.

The only thing I can think of is this coincides with when I changed Oat Bran from Quacker Oats to the generic, yet I've done this before with Oat Bran and suffered no problems.

I took two Phillips stool softners tonight hoping to help.

I really would appreciate any suggestions on what I've done wrong or can do.
I am stumped.
It just dried up overnight, I can get Quacker Oats Bran but that seems unlikely to be the answer.
Thanks.

Do you eat the bowl of spinach without bread or anything? Cause most IBS-C cant handle much spinach at all, so its impossible to eat without a lot of SF.

I always it with lunch or dinner, cooked of course.

I've been drinking a lot of water.
I simply don't get I "dried up" nor what my "remedy" is.

It maybe time to start over and go back to the BTC diet. Once things have settled down you can start adding more variety to your diet again.

just an idea and I know that it is hard to change but could the fact that you are furious over your IBS and stressing over the diet and everything you put into your mouth be adding to the severity of your IBS? Stress can cause havoc on the system and while I am not saying that it is all to blame it could be making things more difficult.

Stress....eh I've been pateint several days, I started to get mad yesterday. I don't know about it being the cause.

BTC Diet...I basically follow it, the only thing I COULD do is the What to eat when you can't eat, but given the chronic C I doubt that would help, I need something which can get stuff moving.

I am really wondering
1) Why the sudden dry up
2) What the cure is?
-More benefiber
-Switching prebiotics
-Doubling or switching Oat brands
-More fiber and water?

It's not like there is a definceny, I've been following BTC steady unchanged.

Oat bran, spinach, etc maybe on the EFI diet they are not on the BTC diet. Go back and check it.

"So stick to foods like plain white rice, plain instant oatmeal, cream of rice cereal, dry corn or oat or rice cereals, pasta, white breads or toast, peeled potatoes, etc. Boring, I know, but it's just a few days"

"After a few days, you should be feeling much better, and your gut will have stabilized. Start carefully expanding your diet - the recipes for zucchini, banana, pumpkin breads work well here, and so does the jok rice porridge soup. Begin to incorporate insoluble fiber foods - carefully! - by blending fresh fruit with soy or rice milk into smoothies, and blending cooked veggies into soups or pasta sauces. Have the smoothie with rice cereal or oatmeal, and the soup with rice or polenta. Try a bit of grilled fish or skinless chicken breast with your pasta/rice"

I confused the two.
My only concern, when you got a case of C, you need fiber, this diet is mostly soluable.

I do that diet, normally, if my stomach can't handle anything I eat.
I am not having a reaction when I eat, I simply am dead on dry.
It's not like I eat and feel bad, I simply can't go, I would be fearful of that because without fiber how I am going to improve noticably?

Is there any supplements I can take that should help?

I was considering
1) Maxing out on Benefiber
2) Adding Acadia or Citrucell with Benefiber
3) Taking Phillips stool softner
4) Lactulose
5) Milk of magnesia

What's recommended to get this going?

From the number of posting you have made recently and the variety of questions you have asked it is apparent that you are distressed about your IBS-C. No doubt your distress is making your IBS worse.

Here is a plan that I would like to suggest. First, carefully re-read the material in Heather's books and on the main part of the web site about EFI. In particular, carefully read the information on the breaking the cycle (BTC) diet.

As you read prepare a list things you are going to eat at each meal or snack for the next seven days. If there are things that you don't understand while you are preparing your plan ask specific questions for guidance from the message board.

Finally, follow your diet exactly as you laid it out for one week. Report back on how you feel as you go along. AND be patient! IBS is not life threatening but it is darn uncomfortable.

Remember what Heather says about the BTC

"Diarrhea and pain should resolve in just a few days. Constipation, especially if it's been chronic, can take several weeks after you initially calm down your gut. Please hang in there."

Good Luck
