My IBS is gone!

I'm new to this site but want to share my healing from IBS. IBS came into my life in 1987. I would have diarrhea 6 times a day and became a slave to my house. When I did go out, I knew where every bathroom along the way was located. My fear of what would and had happened before controlled my every thought when I knew I had to leave the house. This went on for almost TWENTY YEARS. I became a social outcast and stayed home.

In 2000 I read that calcium pills helped. This was on another site. I went to Wal-Mart (the suggested place) and bought the kind recommended. I took it and it did help some. Over the years, I tried many things. Some helped, most didn't. About 2 years ago, I came upon something so simple I couldn't believe that it would actually change my life forever. This happened totally by accident because I wanted to lose a little weight and my husband is a health fanatic. I hope this can help heal all of you that read it. It has helped me and I have not had diarrhea since discovering this unless it was from bad food or eggs, which I'm allergic to.

I started taking vitamins because my husband nagged me to do it because I was always tired. Who wouldn't be after 6 trips to the toilet per day??? The vitamins aren't what cured me. I started eating plain non-fat yogurt (1/4 - 1/2 cup) every morning. I would add a few strawberries or other fruit into it and have that for breakfast. I hated it at first but now I enjoy it. I do not use the store kind that is already mixed and loaded with sugar. Honestly, I believe sugar can cause IBS. What I found out is when I ate the yogurt and had one coral calicum pill (any brand) that I would be normal for the next 2-3 days. Sometimes I would even get constipated if I ate yogurt and took the pill for 2-3 days in a row. I never knew I could be so happy to be constipated! Remember, I had diarrhea for almost TWENTY YEARS. Anyway, I now take a coral calcium (any brand) about every other day and eat non-fat yogurt on the same day as when I take the pill. In the last 2 years I have been a normal human being again. It was a miracle to me! I have my life back now! I believe with all my heart that you can have your life back too. I can't tell enough people about it when I find out they have IBS. My doctor told me that out of every 5 patients he sees, 1 of them has IBS. That means 1 out of every 5 people in the U.S. has IBS. Sad! I hope many of them have access to the Internet to see what will work for them. I'm so happy now. My stomach used to churn everytime I'd think about having to get in my car to go somewhere. I can't believe that now I don't even give it a second thought. Did you hear what I just said? I don't even think about it now! I just get into the car and drive to where I'm going. It's been so long since I've had IBS that's it's almost like I never had it. The Mind/Gut control has disappeared. Please try this! I think it will change your life forever. I wish I could tell the whole world what I discovered. The best health to all of you. God bless!

For those of you who try this, please let me know if it helps you. Thanks!

I'm glad that worked for you and that you're feeling better, but

(1) for most people with IBS, dairy is a HUGE trigger food - even in something like yogurt. A much safer way for most of us to get the benefits of yogurt without the agony is to take a probiotic supplement - available in health food stores - which works just as well, if not better.

(2) This message board IS for the discussion of Heather's IBS diet, which definitely does not advocate the consumption of dairy, as it is a trigger food. On the main forums page, Heather requests people who post on here to read her diet guidelines, and stick to posts that conform to those guidelines. I really doubt your post will be deleted - I'm just saying.

Personally, that approach would NEVER work for me: dairy, even yogurt, gives me terrible diarrhea, and calcium supplements bind me up painfully. But hey, everyone's different - that's the unfortunate nature of IBS. I'm glad you're feeling better, and I hope you continue to.

I am very happy for you. That is just wonderful!!!

Unfortunately, the majority of people on this board cannot consume diary. We, or I, use Acidolphlus (sp) instead.

If I could eat dairy again, I would be as happy as you are.

Thanks for sharing and good luck!

Hi there. I wanted to do a search for "yogurt" today to just see if it has ever helped anyone else. I only eat a small amount every day, maybe a few spoonfuls, and it seems to have helped my stomach as well. I'm lactose intolerant and it really doesn't affect me at all if I eat it in small quantities.
