I bought some Rice Dream Ice Cream and it was awful!!! I through it in the garbage. It has no taste, none at all.

I remember seeing a list that contained some sorberts that were IBS friendly; I did a search but could not find it.

Would someone please direct me to the search site or give me the name of the sorbert?

It is 99 degrees here and everyone's having there "ice cream", but of course I can't eat any.

Please help if you can.

Thanks
Lene

Most sorbets are going to be safe by their very nature... pretty much all of them are dairy-free and fat-free. Just read the ingredients, to double-check, and if you're sensitive to HFCS, watch for that too.

I make my own, so I'm not even sure of the brands out there other than Haagen-Dazs. But I'm *reasonably* sure H-D is safe. Like I said, check the ingredients.

Oh, and stay away from sherbet - it has dairy.

Italian ices might be another thing you can try. I think the brand I've bought is Luigi's. Mmm, lemon Italian ice.

Edy's fruit sorbet is really good! The peach and boysenberry are excellent! I don't know if it contains HFCS though.

I am really new to all of this so please bear with me. I found Haagen-Dazs Sorbet (strawberry is yummy!) and it hasn't bothered me. I thought I was going to have to give up desserts but this sorbet is wonderful and it has none of the fructose in it. Heather also lists "Brand Name Recommendations for IBS-Safe Foods" on the Eating for IBS Diet Board. I found that very helpful when shopping.

I don't care for the Rice Dream frozen desserts either. Some of my favorite IBS-safe "ice cream":

Haagen Daz sorbets (chocolate, strawberry, etc.)

Tofutti Cuties (non-dairy ice cream sandwiches)

Soy Delicious Purely Decadent Non-Dairy Desserts (Peanut Butter Zig Zag and other flavors! A bit high in fat so eat less than a serving at a time.)

Thanks for your help guys. I will check out the supermarket for the information all of you gave me.

It is such a great feeling to be able to ask a question on this board and get great responses. I was truly blessed when God led me to this site back in April '04.

I love you all and may God bless you continuously.

If you can handle soy.....So Delicious brand is unbelievable. I prefer it over regular ice cream. Good luck

I too, love the Haagen-Dazs sorbet, especially the Mango. Would love to have your recipe for making my own.

Sorbet is almost always safe in my view.
In fact it better, because I like to get at restaraunts.
I can;t imagine how it wouldn't unless it has HFCS but still HFCS is a cardinal sin like dairy.

Thanks Andrew but soy is a definite trigger for me.

I bought two containers (small) of soy yogurt and I was in continuous pain for over a week.

Thanks for the advice.

You have to read the ingredient label. Many sorbet/sherbets have HFCS/glucose-fructose or just fructose in them. Also, some might contain apple, pear, mango, etc fruit/juice too. I have a difficult time finding one that I can eat in my location
