Artificial sweeteners like splenda etc. are no no's for IBSers. They irritate the digestive tract terribly. Sugar, on the other hand, causes no problems. I know, which one is it that they say it's "MADE from sugar"... well, chemically altered, sure. Avoid them.

I find that sometimes too much sugar can be a bad thing, but generally, sweeten your life with a spoonful o' sugar whenever you like. Just make sure you keep up with your soluble fibre. It's likely another ingredient other than the sugar that's causing the problem. Just avoid high fructose corn syrup like the plague, high fats, real chocolate (unless it's cocoa powder thenn go nuts), and other triggers.

Stevia, stevia, stevia! It might take a bit of getting used to...slightly bitter. But it's great.

I have seen so many variations of stevia. What is the difference and which is the best one to buy? I noticed that some of them are made with fructose which I am a little hesitant about using since I am sensitive to fructose. Is there any from of real sugar in stevia or is it basically just a natural sugar free sweetner?
