Hi, I am new to the boards and am so glad to have found it! I was diagnosed with IBS in 2002. I actually found this website (before the message boards) and read Heather's Eating for IBS Book and it helped so much! I basically lived off the recipes in the book and was able to control my IBS with the food that I ate. From 2004 up till a few momnths ago, my IBS was almost nonexistant. I was able to eat what I wanted, when I wanted with very few episodes.
Until now. My stress level has gone up quite a bit due to my changing jobs, money problems, and adding a new baby to the family. All at once! Now, I'm back to the constant tummy pain and frequent episodes of diahria (I know I spelled it wrong) or constapation. I'm at the point where I'm only able to eat sourdough toast and pretzels. Everything else upsets my tummy. So, it feels like I'm either starving or in pain. I just don't know what to do. All the doctors I've seen just shrug their shoulders, but they finally gave me a referral to see a specialist, but I can't see them until the 20th of next month!
I have been reading all your helpful posts and orded the Acacia and Peppermint Caps since you all have said such great things about it. Does anyone have any other ideas for some relief? I'm at the end of my rope and am so tired of wasting my days away in pain.
Thank you, Jaymi

Hypnotherapy. Honestly, if your IBS is stress and anxiety triggered, it's the best thing. Shorter-term solutions include getting enough sleep and exercise. Even shorter-term? Peppermint tea and heating pads and good books!
This too shall pass....

...there's a Support Group for the Sacto area. The next one is this Sunday at the Carmichael Library from 6:45p to 8:15p. Click on the link below my signature and it will take you the the Support Group page. I take all kinds of info (on Heather's diet and supplements) with me to hand out and I also bring a lot of different books that you can flip through and see if they may be of help to you. I have a couple confirmed RSVPS so far. I'd love to have you join us.
Welcome to the boards. I hope you start to feel better soon.

Thank you both. I read about the hypno and will be buying it very soon! I can't wait to start! While I was reading about it, I kept thinking "wow, this is so me." Like the part about seeing new things as a threat instead of an opportunity. I had no idea there were actually so many other people who though the same way...

I am in the same situation. I was following Heather's diet and was doing so well. I have had more episodes of D and several weeks of C. I was sent to a specialist. He put me through tests but I have no results and an apt. with a nurtisanist (spelt wrong) who wants me to INCREASE all my fibre ("eat bran"). I need to gain control again-It is hard to go to work again!! I live on rice and cinnamon toast (I make) you are not alone.

Hi~ Thank you for posting this! I have recently added rice to my toast diet too, but still living each day in pain. It is very comforting to know that someone else is going through the same...
They want to to increase your fiber? Won't that upset your stomach more? It sure does me!
