Hi All
I know there is a stick post on snacks which I have read through but the ones listed don't seem to be things that are very filling.

I always end up going for chocolate which really upsets my tummy or toast which gets very boring!

What snacks do you go for that fill you up?

Thanks so much, I am so sick of feeling ill from the chocolate!

Look in the Recipe Index under Snacks/Appetizers. I eat a lot of hummus and bean dips - protein! I also keep a stock of frozen quick breads in my freezer; I bake one day a month.

Since I feel better when I eat every 2 or 3 hours, I don't worry so much about "filling up"...

Here is what I tolerate for snacks:

Unsweetened apple sauce (I buy the single serve packs because somehow, a big jar always turns into a science project in my fridge)

Baby carrots or carrot sticks

A banana

Little Debbie angelfood snack cakes

Keebler Cinna Bites Rite Bites

Graham crackers (Keebler, again, I think, but always read the label)

Dry cereal such as Marshmallow Mateys (Malt-o-Meal's Lucky Charms knock-off)

Dark chocolate (again, read the label)

I usually munch on low fat cinnamon graham crackers or reduced fat Ritz crackers. If I'm not having a lazy week, I'll having a muffin that is frozen in batches that I make over the weekend. If you need chocolate, choose any of the muffin recipes in the recipe section (I think the strawberry muffin recipe has the best texture) and substitute diary-free chocolate chips for the fruit. Check the labels. I found that the store-brand semi-sweet chips in my store are dairy-free. There are many brands in the health food stores if you can't find one in your grocery. Another option, if you have Heather's book, is the chocolate silk pudding. That is SUPER chocolately and perfect for PMS cravings. If the toast is a little boring, it's ok to spread a little honey or all-fruit jam on it, just no butter.

I like to soften a flour tortilla in the microwave for about 10 sec. put a small amount of peanutbutter on it and slice up a banana length wise and roll it up. I can't get enough of these.

I do the same thing but I add honey as well, I have also been known to heat it in a frying pan, so it's like a dessert quesadilla...I also do dried mango, graham crackers with peanut butter, crackers with soy cream cheese...and the regular stuff like pretzels, rice crackers and all that jazz

For a liquid chocolate snack, I've been mixing my acacia dose with a couple of spoons of good cocoa and some almond syrup. I then add some soymilk and put it in the microwave: hot creamy chocolate almond goodness!

Another safe chocolate thing is the Anti-Depressant Brownie recipe in the recipe index.

I generally go for fruit for a snack--especially smoothies.
I love applesauce.

My weakness is gummy bears and fuzzy peaches. I love swedish berries. (If it's sour, I love it!) I love hard candies, i.e. Jolly Ranchers. Licorice rules.

Hummus and bean dips are also a favourite. Home-made pita chips are a staple. Often my "snacks" turn into appetizers!
I've been known to go for soups.

I used to do carrots until I turned orange and my doctor banned them.

I like liquid snacks, i.e. vanilla almond milk or a chai tea . I'm not big on cocoa or chocolate. Soy yogurt is great & portable, too.

I'm not a big baker, I confess.

Kate, IBS-D.

The absolute most filling snack for me is baby carrots. I eat them raw, with mustard for dipping.

I really have to concentrate on getting enough IF, so my snacks are mostly fruit. If I'm out and about and really need something, I get a Luna bar, which seems to hold me better than, say, pretzels.

If my stomach is really empty, I'll snack on pretzels or French bread. If I've recently eaten a safe meal but I'm craving something sweet, I will toast mini marshmallows on Keebler cinnamon graham crackers (like smores without the chocolate) or I'll make a chocolate cake for one (on the recipe index). I also like to have a big bowl of Rice Chex with soymilk each night between dinner and bedtime. Another thing I do is cook a little extra at dinner so I have a healthy, safe, filling snack later. It's really great to have a bowl of homemade food waiting for me when I'm starving between meals.

I buy white pitta bread, cut it into chips size pieces, place on cookie sheet, spray with a little bit of olive oil and sprinkle with salt. Preheat oven to 425 degrees and place pitta piece in oven until golden brown -- about 5 - 7 minutes. If you can tolerate IF then use brown pitta bread. These pitta chips are low fat and IBS friendly. Good luck

I use about 6-10 pita for each batch I make. I store the chips in a well sealed zip lock bag. I have no troubles keeping them for a week or more.
