I was wondering if anyone had any advice for me.
I was on Paxil for my IBS D and it worked great for 3 yrs. no symptoms it was like a miracle! Now Im 9 wks pregnant and off Paxil and on Bentyl which doesnt do anything . My IBS is back with a vengeance. Is Imodium safe or any other anti diarrheal to take during the 1st trimester? Any advice anyone has for me would be greatly appreciated! This is HORRIBLE!!! Thanks so much!

Yes, Imodium is safe.

Congrats on the pregnancy.

I don't have any recommendations about meds. I was pregnant way before diagnosis. All I can tell you is that for me, my IBS went away sometime around 16wks with both baby's. As the baby gets bigger, he pushes on the intestines and slows everything down. Most healthy women complain about C during pregnancy. For me, it was the first time I was regular since I was 23 years old. Congrats on the baby!

Congratulations on your pregnancy . Sorry to hear that your IBS is flaring up. Of course speak to your doctor, but I can tell you that my doc said immodium was alright, but pepto bismol is NOT b/c it apparently has aspirin in it. Hang in there. Hopefully once you get through the first trimester you'll start getting more c for the rest of the pregnancy.

Originally IBS-D for a million years!
