What types of condiments do you all put on your sandwiches when you are out? I have no problem at home. I usually use Miracle Whip light on turkey sandwiches or ketchup that does not have HFCS on something like a veggie burger (I don't think I have a problem with HFCS but just in case). Other than plain mustard, I am usually stumped when I eat out (like at a lunch place) as to what to ask for that is safe. I would love to have honey mustard...is there anything unsafe that would be lurking in there? Somtimes I ask for vinegar or balsamic vinegar but I'd love to hear everyone's choices.

I usually get honey mustard or sweet onion dressings. I also put oil and vinegar on subs. I pretty much only eat Subway when I go out for sandwiches.

I usually stick with mustards, just because they're the safest in most places. I detest plain yellow mustard, though - I usually go with a spicy brown.

Honey mustards can be a good choice, as long as you can confirm that they're just honey and mustard, with no mayo or other ingredients added.

Vinegar is another good choice, yes.

I think any other choices are going to depend on what the deli/restaurant offers. I *believe* the sweet onion sauce at Subway is safe, for example, but don't quote me on that one until you check out the ingredients (I know it's low-fat, but I'm not 100% sure it's dairy-free).

I'm a mustard freak, personally. Lately, however, I have been into chutneys & bean dips/spreads. Salsas are great spreads/condiments for sandwiches as well--tons of personality, personalization & creativity room in that department. Red pepper jelly is divine, especially on a portabella mushroom panini. Tapenade is pretty rich, as well. I get bored so quickly, alas.

If looking for ideas go to a specialty store, i.e. an Italian gourmet food store.

Kate, IBS-D.
