I was just diagnosed as having IBS C. Its my first day on Heathers Diet and because I get a lot of bloating and gas I can't take Metamucil. Could anyone tell me if Flax Oil Capsules would be an IF and a substitute for Metamucil. Thanks for any help that can be offered.

Why would you want IF on the first couple of days on Heather's diet? You're supposed to start with BTC, which is no IF.

Flax Oil tablets are likely not going to have fiber, because they are, well, oil tablets, theit purpose is to contain oil. The inactive ingredients might have a little fiber, but probably not enough... You can try acacia, the fiber Heather sels, it's gotten pretty good reviews (and it's bloating and gas safe).

In Eating for IBS if mentions nothing about not eating IF when first starting the diet. This is all new to me. Its so bad I am bedridden and have been since October/06. Since your post i am only eating whats on page 23 of Heathers book. Whats BTC?

BTC- the Break The Cycle diet.

Let me give you some links:
http://www.helpforibs.com/diet/faq.asp#break_cycle

Quote:

The best thing to do to break the cycle is to really restrict your diet for a few days (and only a few days - this is a short-term diet only) to nothing but soluble fiber foods and soluble fiber supplements , and lots of strong hot peppermint tea (if you're prone to acid reflux, try fennel or chamomile or anise instead of the mint). Peppermint is a powerful muscle relaxant and a painkiller. Fennel is the best for bloating and gas - it can really help. Try to be mildly active, even if just around the house, as gentle exercise will work the muscles of the bowels and help get them back into a pattern of normal contractions. Walking or stretching or an easy yoga practice is ideal. Exercise is especially crucial for constipation.

Sure

I am an IBS-C and I use magnesium citrate (also sold as Natural Calm). It's gotten pretty good reviews here... lots of Cers claim its their life saver (including me, LOL).

So I highly recommend it. It's gentle enough for someone with a low pain threshold...
