Hi Guys,

I haven't been around in a while - 3 kids tend to keep you overly busy and for the most part my IBS has been stable which has been great!

Unfortunately though, after the recent birth (5 weeks ago) of my son Samuel I have had a really rotten time of it with my IBS.

Originally I was mostly an IBS-C sufferer with bouts of D attacks.

Since Sam was born though I have been having really bad attacks of D. It started pretty much after I came home from hospital.

As I write this I have just sufferred several hours in agony in the bathroom with horrible cramps and D and sweats. I really dont know why as I have spent the last 2 1/2 days on the BTC diet trying to settle things down.

As a veteran IB sufferer I know all the right things to do and am doing them - such as walking, relaxation, SF supps, careful eating etc. So its very frustrating to be doing all the things to control IBS that have kept me stable over quite some time - only to find that they are not helping me at all now!

Has anyone else had this happen? Has anyone any advice for me? Has anyone else switched from C to really bad D? Has anyone found their IBS flared badly after having a baby (I was fine last time).

When I was first diagnosed I went on a course of Anti depressants and i found these really helped me though I got off them once stable as I dont like to be on medication unless I really have to. I have considered maybe trying this again but the ones I were on list D as a possible side effect so while they may have been suitable previously I dont know if they would be now.

Also I have tried immodium a few times which seems to help but then it blocks me up for a few days and then I seem to just go back to D again.

I have done the hypno program in the past and was thinking of redoing it but one of my CDS has gotten scratched so I need to look into whether i can order a replacement of that specific CD.

Please help - this is really interfering with my life and I'm really down about it. I'm getting anxious that one day I might be in the middle of a horrible attack at the time I'm due to collect my eldest son from school.

Kerrie

just from reading other posts I am wondering if I could be limiting my foods for too long?
Could that cause the horrible D attack i just had?
I wouldnt have thought so but maybe it can... I was going well forst 48 hours of BTC then wham! hit with really bad attack even though no trigger.
so if you are on the BTC diet and get a really bad attack should you continue with BTC again?
Hate being back at square one and not being in control!
Help!

BTC is only supposed to be temporary. It's not incredibly healthy because you aren't getting enough protein or vitamins etc. There's no limit of how many times to do BTC though, so you could try it a couple days each week, or for a week every other week maybe. I'm no expert on this though, so other comments would be helpful. Good luck.

Hello KinOz

I can relate to your story. I used to be IBS-C (I did not know it at the time), then I became IBS-A and now I am IBS-D. After being diagnosed as IBS-D, I able to manage my condition only with Heather's diet for a year and a half. Last fall, I started to have D-attack two times a week out of the blue and even the BTC diet did not help. I started to take one half of Imodium in the morning everyday and was fine for two months, then it hit me again this week. You could try this for a couple of weeks, it will work.

Remember that stress or fatigue is a major trigger, so the more you will panic or frustrate over it, the worse it will get. Believe me, I can relate (see my post) with your frustration. But IBS is a mysterious thing and there is no miracle cure (even Heather's diet can't prevent things from happening in your life that will stress you out.) So...

1)Stick the BTC for couple of days
2) Take one half a dose of Imodium each morning before breakfast (for a while)
3) Stay calm and relax.
