I am going to check with my doctor about this medicine for the Gall bladder problem. But, i am worried about getting my hopes up. My IBS has been SOOOOOOOO bad for the last week. I am trying to eat what I am suppose to. But, it is not clearing up the gas and diarreha (sp). This is such an embarressing syndrom. I am sorry for all of the miss spelling. I am so tired from the constant battle for a week I can not even think straight. Is anyone on a medication for their IBS that they feel helps. I have been controling mine by diet for the last 2 years because was pregnant and then breast feeding. Are all of you on medication? How many doyou take? And if you are IBS-D does it make you constipated?

Thanks-Randi

Sorry to hear about the rough week you've had. IBS seems to hit like that sometimes - it seems no matter how "good" you're being, it flares anyway. Some things that seem to help me and others are fennel or peppermint tea - very soothing; avoiding trigger foods (although it sounds like you've been doing that) - are you eating anything that hasn't been a trigger for you in the past but is considered a common trigger to many IBS people? Maybe you are developing an intolerance to something that used to be safe for you. I ask because I think that's happening to me with some fruits - never a problem before but I think its becoming one. Same with eggs. I also find a 1/2 tsp. of glutamine powder a day,2 IDS capsules (made by Nutrition Now) and 2 acidophilus capsules help keep things stabilized (especially if I am eating well.) Stress is SUCH a trigger - try to do anti-stress things for yourself - exercise, deep-breathing or other relaxation methods. Some people find yoga to be helpful. It is frustrating that sometimes it seems you can control the IBS and other times it controls us! The more consistent you are about diet, exercise, and de-stressing, the more good days you can have.I hope the coming week is a better one for you!

The dr. put me on 20 mg of bentyl four times a day (before each meal and at bedtime). I took that for about a month and started Heather's diet, and I stableized (sp?). Now I take it as needed. I have IBS-c/d and bentyl is supposed to regulate the the contractions of the intestines. Which helps with c or d.
Hope this information is useful,
Shawna
