hi all.... I've had my share of problems with anxiety. Started off as OCD at 16 and then ibs came roughly the same time. Through finding God I've managed to control the compulsions of ocd somewhat- I know that God is in control and I think it's the 2nd? commandment- 'you shall have no other gods but me' I was treating ocd like a god - bowing down to the voice that was saying 'oh better do this or better not do that' - (fellow ocders I'm sure can understand)
But I'm still suffering with the feelings and obsessions anxiety brings.
At Christmas I took a double dose of my meds by accident and since then I've totally been anxious about having a heart attack. I got a pain my upper stomach region a few weeks ago and then I came on here did a search for chest pains and I started to get the symptoms that were mentioned. I can't help but think that everything in my body that I'm feeling is down to the anxiety. I've got pressure in my chest, aching arms and back, head pains, shaking, nausea.
I went to the doc and she suggested it could be heart burn and told me the symptoms of anxiety are similar to a heart attack!
I know a lot of people on this board are in the same position I'm just wondering how many of us, if the anxiety wasn't there would be fine in body too?
Don't get me wrong I'm not trivialising it and saying it's all in our heads because I think it is a physical thing but the mind is such a powerful thing I do believe you can actually make yourself feel pain by thinking about it so much.
Anyway just some thoughts I decided not to keep to myself this time lol
Godbless everyone

I hear you. Yes, I agree that of course IBS is physical but the mind-gut connection seems so strong at times that I could talk/worry myself into having any illness. What did the doctor say about the anxiety as far as putting you on a medication for it? What meds are you taking now? I haven't done the research, but I think that there are some differences between heart attack symptoms and anxiety symptoms, although easily mistaken. Perhaps if you found out what those differences are, you could keep reminding yourself of them so you won't be anxious about a heart attack. Good luck to you. Be persistent with your doc too...if it puts your mind at ease to have your heart checked, then get that done. Hang in there.
