i'm ibs-c my gi doc gave me Bentyl, has any other ibs-c taken it?

hi,
my gi doc gave me Bentyl, i'm ibs-c and i was wondering has anyone who has ibs-c taken it and how did it help them? i thought Bentyl was used for D.

Hi Sunspot,
One of my first GI Drs gave me Dicyclomine (Bentyl) for spasms and it made my C worse. It did not stop the spasms either, so I stopped taking it. The spasms seemed to ease once I increased the acacia to 1 tablespoon 2 times a day. I increased slooowly over a 6 month period.
That is my experience.

Bentyl has always worked great for me for pain, spasms, gas, bloating, etc. I used to take it daily, two at a time. But since starting the EFI diet 6 months ago, I almost never take it. However, on those rare occasions when I DO take it, I will notice mild C the next day.

I am also IBS-C and was given Bentyl about a month ago. I have been taking it once or twice a day only in the eve. My GI also tald me to take Colace along with it. I found that if I took 100mg once a day, I kept pretty regular.Sometimes I was too soft with the Colace. The Bentyl seemed to really help me with pain, bloating and gas. I took it for 3-4 weeks straight,then didnt have to take it for about a week because I thought I was stable,then started again. Working on the right combination of IF, Bentyl and keeping regular.
