I started the IBS diet about 2 months ago and I was having a lot of luck with it until I quit smoking (9 days ago). I also began taking Acacia over a month ago (started at 1/2 teaspoon twice a day, and gradually increased to 1/2 teaspoon four times a day). I know that nicotene has a huge affect on your system, but could the withdrawal symptoms be causing a huge amount of smelly gas due to everything slowing down? I normally don't get this type of gas. Thought maybe I increased the Acacia too quickly, so I dropped it back down to twice a day, which hasn't made a difference. I'm eating oatmeal, banana and pumpkin bread, tuna, crackers, applesauce, white rice, baked chicken, corn chex and rice milk daily. Thanks!

I think maybe you still need to increase the acacia and from what you listed for food you might need to add more insoluble fiber to your diet too.
For the gas, have you tried any fennel tea? It's very good for it. Now that you quit smoking, I don't know what effects it might have on your body concerning the gas. If it is causing any effects, I think it would probably be temporary. I'm glad you made a decision to have a healthier lifestyle!

Thanks for the advice Gracie. Yes, I'm drinking a lot of fennel tea - peppermint also. I've been hesitant to add very much insoluble fiber since I was doing so well in the begining, but I'll try that. I know I definitely need to add more fruits and vegetables to my diet. I was also thinking about stopping the Acacia for a while, but I'll keep giving it a try. Thanks again!

I do remember feeling like I had extra smelly gas in the past from quitting smoking. I've gone back to it a few times but was a very light smoker the most recent time I quit and didn't notice any increase in gas. Maybe because I was only having a few cigarettes a day before quitting.
