While sharing the information I read about chronic sinus infections,it was not my intention to make a prognosis on Zippo's condition or infer that it was chronic. I was relating to an article I read, that researchers found (yes, they "are" specialists at the Mayo Clinic) that..."chronic sinusitis is an immune disorder caused by fungus" and have seen..."significant improvement in the quality of life for the large majority of patients with chronic sinus infection who were treated with antifungal drugs," says David Sherris, M.D., a Mayo Clinic ear, nose and throat specialist and one of the project researchers. "Many of them had been miserable for years and were severely hampered at work and in social situations by their illness. Many are pain-free and able to breathe effectively through their noses for the first time in years."
The article goes onto say..."Clinical studies first conducted by Mayo Clinic found that this treatment provided greater improvement of symptoms than other treatments that have been used. Past treatments used by physicians include antibiotics and systemic or inhaled steroids, as well as endoscopic sinus surgery." It is also interesting to note in the article the blurb about colitis and asthma being treated with antifungals as well. I leave you the links for you to peruse if you wish...

I don't think 'all' antibiotics are bad, just that they can be overused and cause many needless problems. As for penicillin that you mentioned, yes, it does come from the mold, penicillium, one of three major mycotoxin-producing fungi. Does that mean I don't think people should take penicillin? Of course not, but minimizing antibiotic use is one way to cut down on our intake of mycotoxins.

Zippo, my apologies to you for this making a mountain out of a molehill. Yes, antibiotics can help you. Of course they can. I'd be interested to see if this antifungal treatment actually does work, as well.

Apologizing "for me" is extremely presumptuous and condescending, kim123. As I have mentioned to you before, please provide accurate information and I won't have to speak up.

GaiasSong,
I'm sensing a little hostility here....I was apologizing for myself, actually. Me-thinks you are being a little presumptous, thinking I was presumptous. And so it continues... Anyway, the information I have presented is no more or less accurate than what you have shared, as well. Each of us have found worthy documentation to back up what we feel strongly about. That's not a bad thing. Doesn't make either one of us an expert, or right. Makes for some good discussion, I say. That's all I thought it was here, people just expressing their ideas and opinions, hoping it may help someone else. I'm wondering though, why is it you are so quick to dispute everything "I" say in my postings. I don't recollect anyone else expressing their views getting a verbal tongue-lashing, like myself. Don't worry, I still love ya. Peace.

I second the use of nasal lavage. Also using a sinus saline solution (comes in a spray bottle) seems to help sinus sufferers. It is just salt and water - no other chemicals or harsh additives. Debbie IBS-C
I do pray that you are feeling better soon.
