You may have recently seen this advertised on TV. I applied but was rejected, as I do not fit their eligibility requirements -- no doubt because of my heart attack.

Why do they never study us IBS-Cs? Even the medicine is all geared for diarrhea, which I never have. I guess I should just count myself lucky and call it quits.

Kimberly, I understand know how you feel, because I felt the same way when they came out with Zelnorm, giving all you Cs relief, and leaving us Ds to continue having to scout out all the public bathrooms before being able to leave home. It's about time they came out with something for us Ds!

Gracie, thank you. This has been a rough year for me. I am not having much luck getting used to all the meds I have to take now. My tummy does NOT like them, especially the cholesterol meds; it seems I've been sick the entire year (and I thought it was bad when I got IBS cramps! Oy). 2007 has GOT to be better!

Don't ever have a heart attack.

There is a drug similar to Zelnorm for IBS-D call Lotronex. Both are serotonin antagonists. Specifically Lotronex is a 5HT-3 antagonists and Zelnorm is a 5HT-4 antagonists. Simply stated each one works on a different serotonin receptor site in the gut.

Thanks Syl. I have an appointment with my doctor -- again -- on Monday to discuss removal of part of my colon (my body can't tolerate many more diverticulitis attacks), and I'll discuss the Lotronex with him then. I also wanna ask him about Rifaximin. (As if I wasn't already taking enough meds, eh?!)

Thanks for the post! How's the weather up there?

It is targeted toward a very specific population because of complications in the past. But it seems to be a life-saver for some.
