I am an IBS-C and was wondering after reading a recent post about what brands are okay. i know that butter is a dairy, but when i eat toast i like something on it. i have tried apple butter)is this safe? when i am really bad, its just plain toasted bread, bagels, english muffins etc. but since i have been feeling more stable and feel fine all day, no attacks, i have been putting some light margarine or butter with olive oil. i also wondered about egg whites, can you eat them without a SF base first?

I spray a small amount of olive oil on my bread and muffins. I don't miss margarine or butter at all. Also most of the margarines that I can buy contain palm or soybean oil which is a big problem for me.

All butter is unavoidably dairy, so by the rules of the EFI diet, it should be avoided. Apple butter contains no butter -- but you should still read the ingredient label to see what's in it. I finally found some jams that are pretty much sugar and fruit after reading what felt like a billion labels, so you could try that, too. I know that there are soy butter subs -- you could try a search on that.

I use Lite Smart Balance. I don't miss butter and never ate much to begin with, so not a problem for me to switch to Lite Smart Balance.
