Smart Balance Light is safe because it is dairy-free. The regular is still dairy. There is a list that I got somewhere on this sight or in Heather's book which breaks down different categories of substitutions (ie., cheese, meatless foods, desserts, etc.) I'm sorry I don't know where it is, but maybe someone else can tell you b/c I take it food shopping with me.

I usually use Spectrum Spread. It should work well for toast, but it doesn't melt very well. For cooking with melted butter, try Soy Garden.

My personal favorite is Soy Garden. Here's the list that line415 was referring to (I think): Brand Name Recommendations for IBS-Safe Foods . It's "sticky posted" at the top of the posts, in case you ever need to reference to it.

What ingredient in the regular smart balance makes it dairy? I bought some by mistake and have been using it and have not been doing well lately.
