I read several posts where people reported eating cream of wheat so I gave it a try (Farina). It didn't give me a problem at all. I added soy milk and some brown sugar and microwaved it. It is very "heavy"...I almost felt like I was eating paste b/c I guess I made it pretty thick, but I could almost visualize it giving me a nice solid base to my stomach. That's just me...not sure if anyone else has problems.

What is wheat farina? I love cream of wheat but didn't know if it was still safe to eat since I got IBS. Does anyone know if it is whole wheat or extremely processed wheat???

Farina is a bland-tasting meal made from cereal grains, nuts, or starchy roots. It is a protein-rich food often cooked in boiling water and eaten for breakfast or in puddings such as semolina. It is used as an ingredient in many dishes and in processed foods such as breakfast cereals and pasta. The bran and most of germ is removed.

Thanks, everyone Well, the germ is pretty much removed, but I could still see some germs in it and it certainly tastes like wheat germ (and it sais it has germ) that's why I was concerned if it was too much IF.
It tastes great though, and I think it is OK with me. I haven't tried having it for breakfast, although that will happen too.
Thank you all for sharing your experiences

Hi, I tried it and it never bothered me - I found the cream of brown rice stayed with me longer and the cream of wheat seem to let my blood sugar drop faster. Neither bothered my bowels.

Malt o meal makes farina cereal now too. It is called hot creamy wheat or something like that.
-------------------- IBS-A for 20 years with terrible bloating and gas. On the diet since April 2004. Remember this from Heather's information pages:
"You absolutely must eat insoluble fiber foods, and as much as safely possible, but within the IBS dietary guidelines. Treat insoluble fiber foods with suitable caution, and you'll be able to enjoy a wide variety of them, in very healthy quantities, without problem." Please eat IF foods!

For some reason, if I eat too much wheat, it really sets me off. I used to love cream of wheat. Now I eat cream of rice with soy milk, and honestly, the difference is so minor in taste. I really love it on cold mornings like we've been having lately.
