My MD recommended Equalactin or Benefiber. I took one dose of the Equalactin and within 2 hours the D started. Im afraid to continue. Does my body have to get used to it? Do I stick it out with a few doses? I noticed Citrucel gives me gas and gets me uncomfortbley bloated so my next step is to try the Benefiber but arent they basically the same thing? I get uncomfortably bloated and gassy after every meal anyway. I am so confused and tired of this IBS D thing.

Joanne--I used Equalactin when I was first trying to get stable. However, I used it in addition to supplemental fiber to help keep me balanced whenever I felt a flare-up brewing. I had no problems with it, but everyone is different. Why don't you try it with some type of fiber? Then, give it a few days for your body to stabilize.

Equalactin is like Fibercon and contains a type of calcium in it. This should help D, but if you're having a bad reaction to it then I suggest not taking it. Also, when I take calcium supplements (different from equalactin) I always have it with a meal. Not sure if this would make a difference.

Benefiber is completely different so it may work better for you. Be sure to drink plenty of water and start at a low dose.

I take Acacia and have had no problems.

I've never tried Equalactin but I tried Fibercon before starting Acacia. It didn't give me d but I did seem to be going a little bit more, yet it seemed to have "bulked" up the stool as it claims. I like the Acacia better now but I didn't really stay on Fibercon that long to tell. Are you drinking water (something I always forget) and try taking it like someone else suggested with some SF. good luck
