Okay, I went to my GI today. I generally like him and think he listens wholeheartedly to me for the most part. I hadn't been there since March. I have IBS-D (sometimes A I guess), microscopic Colitis, and gastritis. I had been taking Nexium for about 9 months and just chose to stop myself recently right around the time I found this website and stopped drinking coffee. He said that was fine to stop (pharmacist told me otherwise)...perhaps my lining of my stomach has "healed" somewhat and if I need to, I can always start again. As far as the microscopic colitis goes, he said that the Asacol I'm taking (400mg twice/day) is not so large of an amount to cause problems with my liver or kidneys...but he also said sometimes it doesn't work (which is kind of what I'm thinking b/c I never saw a real difference..but maybe I would be worse without it). He said to go back to trying the pepto bismol...for the colitis that is...up to 8 tablets per day. That would be in place of the Asacol. I also take Librax which he refilled b/c I do think that it helps. I showed him some info. on Heather's diet, etc....although he barely looked at it, he seemed to agree with the jist of the whole SF/IF thing and some triggers. He's going to test me for a wheat/gluten intolerance and also test for an official lactose intolerance diagnosis. He saw no harm in adding probiotics and digestive enzymes, just suggested that I don't change too many things at once and get confused as to what is or isn't working. (Incidentally, does anyone see a problem with starting Primal Defense and Digestive Enzymes all at once and just keeping my meds the same for now?) Also, I asked him if he thought that maybe it just "showed up" as microscopic colitis from the biopsy during the colonoscopy as a result of the inflammation from so many IBS attacks. He said, no...I do have MC...but according to my symptoms, it appears that the IBS is my predominant problem. I pretty much have agreed with that theory all along (which is why I'm here of course! )Well hope this info helps someone.

Thank you so much for posting this information. I have not found out anymore since I posted to you last. I am going to buy myself some pepto bismol tablets, do you think the swallowable would be okay? I don't like chewing the regular ones. This week has been pretty bad for me because I have been highly stressed. I am also comforted by the fact that your GI said you definitely have MC but have IBS at the same time. Don't get me wrong I am not glad that you have both, I wouldn't wish that on anybody. I was just questioning my diagnosis because I had other symptoms that seem to relate to IBS more than MC and I didn't know if you could have both? Please post anytime, it is really helpful for me. I can't find many MC people out there. I will do the same. Take Care of yourself and have a good weekend, Bethany
