How has chocolate effect you. I have a piece every so often but sometimes it doesnt do anything and once in a while, it goes thru me. Is it a trigger food? I love it too much to give it up completely.

Solid chocolate is a trigger. See Heather's list of trigger foods http://www.helpforibs.com/diet/trigger2.asp

Cocoa powder is ok though, which is why there are so many delicious recipes for chocolate cakes/brownies in the recipe board.

It depends. Chocolate itself is not a trigger (unless it's a personal one for you), but we're talking about 70-100% chocolate. The regular chocolate bars are probably made with triggers including dairy products.

Unfortunately, chocolate is a trigger because it is so high in fat. It also depends on when you eat it. If you eat it on an empty stomach the chance that it will cause problems is much higher than if you eat a small bit after a nice low fat, high SF meal. I eat a small bit of dairy free dark chocolate (talking 70% cocoa here) after a meal and so far haven't had any problems. I totally agree, I cannot live life without chocolate at all!! Also, make sure you are stable when you try this. If your tummy is at all touchy at the moment I would still hold off on eating chocolate because it is a trigger and will prolong your misery. I also have been eating more snacks made with cocoa to get a chocolate fix such as the peppermint fudge cake of Heather's and hot cocoa made with vanilla soy milk. Lately I have been taking my SFS in my hot cocoa as the nights get chillier Good luck!!
