I have been an ibs-c person for about 10 years. For the last 5 months I have been having great success eating steel-cut oats daily. This has given me greater symptom relief than anything else I've tried and I have tried it all. I add a tablespoon of freshly ground flax seed for omega 3s, soy milk, maple syrup, walnuts a few currants. I cook enough for 4 days at a time. Anyone else experience improvement with steel-cut oats?

I eat these often. I'm an A, and I usually add 4 teaspoons (which I guess is 1TBs plus 1tsp) of acacia, and a little brown sugar. That's all -- no soy milk or anything, just water. I find that if I hang around my house for a while after I eat it, I usually have to go, and it's comfortable. Plus it's so much yummier than instant, in my opinion.

I was turned on to this by an ibs-d friend for whom it worked well. We never found rolled oats to be so therapeutic. Steel-cut oats absorb an amazing amount of water!

They are really tasty if you toast them just a little bit before making them.
