Bloating - how EXACTLY does it feel? How do I know?

I have a question...and it sounds kinda basic, but I haven't been able to find an answer in Heather's book, WebMD, etc...
Lots of you talk about bloating, and solutions when that happens. At the same time, you also talk about the physical GROWTH of your midsection when you have bloating.
My question - what does bloating ACTUALLY feel like? Can I experience bloating (& thus have relief from the teas, etc. that give relief) even if my tummy doesn't blow up like so many of you describe?
Here's what I experience that I wonder whether it's bloating:
1) Feeling like I ate a beachball (inflated!)- no outward physical "growth" ever
2) Feeling like my stomach stretches upward toward my breastbone
3) A "full" feeling, vaguely painful aching, sorta like stomach's stretching in all directions...not quite full-on nausea, but uncomfortable nonetheless.

I don't really physically "grow" that much, either. It feels like everything is expanding and I don't have the room for it.

I actually do experience physical growth. If I press on my abdomen, I can actually feel that it's full of gas. It's VERY uncomfortable! Fennel tea really helps a ton. Are you ibs-c? I wonder if you're just so backed up that food isn't really going down....

bloating is a REALLY big one for me. i've always had a flat stomach. when i'm bloated, i look like i'm in a early pregnancy stage...full of gas and stuff that isn't digesting. it's horrible and it hurts. i take fennel pills (whole foods sells them) or i drink chamomile tea. that actually helps the best for me. good luck!!

To me bloating is a full squishy stretchy feeling but I don't have much if any outward appearance. I'm pretty sure it's bloating. Feels like I feel when I get my period but no period. During my period, ibuprofen makes me feel more "normal" so I'm pretty sure it is bloating. But I think that can be a bit different for each too. Like every thing else. So frustrating all of it. Though, mostly I am ok. However, sometimes, I just feel "crappy" and I'm pretty sure that is part of it too. Not enough for major symptoms but a general malaise.

I most definitely need to get some fennel pills! I have that same horrible pregnancy bloating. It's so weird. The pills should be good b/c I don't particularly like drinking teas, but I will when I'm desperate.

the only place i could find them was at whole foods. i suppose any health store should have them. i just take them after i eat something i think will make me bloat. they have chamomile pills too. but i like tea, so i drink that!

These are definitely easier to take! However, I find that I have to take them with some food. Otherwise I can taste them...ick.

yeah, they have a little yucky taste! LOL...i take them w/like soy milk or something. then you can't taste them.
