I'm newly diagnosed IBS-A and for the past 3 months have been on the IBS diet. I've been feeling pretty good, so am starting to integrate a few foods into my meals to see what I am tolerant of. Yesterday I ate grilled cheese for lunch, then had rice & chicken for supper. I felt fine (aside from feeling bloated) until this afternoon (roughly 24 hrs later), now I have stomach cramps. Could it have taken that long for the symptoms of eating cheese to appear?

I'm more of an IBS D person, usually it hits me within a few hours but sometimes, just sometimes, I would eat something like pizza around 4-5pm and then wake up around 10am the following morning just hurting.. So yes, it is possible that it's a food trigger or perhaps you were over stressing about something??

Cheese and other dairy products is something you are going to have to cut out of your diet for good.
To answer your question, yes you can feel bad from what you ate the day before.

Soy-Sation and Veggie both make good soy cheeses. I prefer the Soy-Sation. There are also almond and rice cheeses. Try them out until you find something you like. Cheese is going to have to go, and none of the alternatives taste exactly like cheese, but there are a few pretty good ones out there.
