Gastroparesis: Nothing is Working!!!

I have gastroparesis and I was wondering if anyone else has this, too. I was wondering if anyone knows what to do for this and how to empty the stomach faster. I've already tried the medication, Reglan, and a diet related to it, but nothing seems to be working, because I still rarely feel hungary. I'm so underweight right now, that it's scary. Please, any suggestions to what I could do would be extremely helpful!!!

I can't be any direct help, but I know this has come up before. If you do a Search on the Diet Board for gastroparesis with no time limit, you'll get some hits.

I was relieved to see that someone else has ibs and gastroparesis symptoms. I was SO underweight too. I used to weigh like 92 pounds, but now I'm up to 110 (and loving it!). I still have a lot of symptoms (burping, reflux, regurgitating). I can't seem to get much relief except from Prilosec and eating small, easily digestable meals. I tried reglan, but it made me fall asleep about an hour after I took it. I'm not sure if the ibs soluble fiber thing is helping, but I'm giving it a try.

This is what I'm trying now, too. Do you have IBS-C? If you do, how do you get in insoluble fiber, because I can't get much with this diet?

You might want to look into a drug called domperidone (brand name Motilium). I took it for a while and it really made my stomach empty faster - it was growling all the time! I stopped taking it because it didn't help with my IBS symptoms. I don't think it's available in the US, but maybe you could order it online or something.

I am just confused about what I can and cannot eat (starting to wonder if I can safely eat anything). I have been cutting out all the triggers (red meat, dairy, too much insoluble fiber, etc) and adding in the acacia with my cereals and with snacks. The problem is my constipation/bloating is getting worse without all the insoluble fiber (I guess).

Plus, I know this was probably a mistake, I stopped taking my Miralax (which draws water into the stool. It was really helping the constipation). But being the impatient person that I am, I stopped taking the Miralax b/c I thought it might be causing some of my squishy, gurgly stomach symptoms. I thought the acacia would keep me regular, but, alas, it wasn't enough. Maybe I took too much too soon, or maybe it was the morningstar burger with dairy in it? Either way, I was extremely bloated last night, and I'm somewhat constipated.

I am now going to gradually take Miralax and just keep adding the acacia about three times a day (1 tsp acacia and 1 tsp benefiber is what I do. I had been taking benefiber before, so I'm just sticking with a little of both). I just don't know about decreasing the insoluble fiber. Everyone tells us to eat a lot of bran for constipation. Is that what you have been doing?

i'm ibs-c...i do the heather diet...i don't eat hardly any fat, i started taking flax seed pills and adding ground flax to things...miralax never did anything for me. i would talk to your doc about zelnorm. that's what i was put on. it get's you back to normal. it's not made to take forever. if you need more info www.zelnorm.com. it worked for me. also, try taking a pribiotic..i hear "primal defense" is a good one. you can get it online, at whole foods, gnc. there are a few "c" people in here that take that...good luck. i know how frustrating it can be.

From my experience this is what I've found. I do get C if I take too much Imodium (to stop the D, sometimes I take too much by accident). Eating IF helps me go. Acacia does not help me go, but does help form better stool, as well as cut down on the pain and cramping. So from my experience, upping the amount of IF will help you go, and upping the amount of SF will help with the other symptoms.

A note on the bran: I can't tolerate it at all. I find taking IF in other forms such as fruit and veggies is much easier to tolerate, less painful, and still keeps me regular. You could try eating bran safely with other SF but maybe try veggies.

Sorry if I'm no help, just wanted to post what I've tried.

I been eating whole flax seeds for months now, but I hear that ground flax might be easier on the GI and bowels. Does it help you a lot with C? I also take flax seed oil.

Thank you much !!!
Blessings,
Abi
