I'm on the Lemonade Fast, trying to purge my system, in hopes, like some say, it will alleviate or even cure my IBS. Problem is 2nd, 3rd and 4th nights have been very painful. Haven't slept more than 3 hours an night. I don't understand because I haven't eaten any solid food since Sunday.

Thoughts?

Perhaps since you are only drinking lemonade, the citric acid has nothing to absorb it in your stomach and thus you are having issues?? I know some people on this board can't handle that much citric acid in their diet.Just a thought though...

That's what I'm starting to wonder. The first couple of days were OK. Now my stomach is a constant nightmare, but I am almost willing to tolerate it in exchange for the cleansing of my system.

Perhaps there is a better way though. Liver Flush or Bowel Flush, perhaps.

More about cleansing.

hi,
when you say lemonade do you mean the fizzy stuff? that may seem like a stupid question but it may be different in america ? in england lemonade is carbonated which is a trigger for ibs so that won't be helping if it is fizzy.... also I agree about the citric acid I can't have to much acidy things or I get pain and if you're doing it all on an empty stomach then it's going to be worse. what exatly is in your lemonade cos lemons are insoluble fiber which could cause you problems without a good soluble fiber base and also (last thing -honest) going for a while without eating gives me pain so it might be that also.
Hope that helps any
Vicky

Thanks. It's not the fizzy drink you mentioned, nor the typical American version. It's actually organic lemons, grade B syrup and cayenne pepper, each having it's own purpose in the cleanse. Good thing is that I actually got past the pain (w/Alka Seltzer of all things -- see other post) and managed to stay on the cleanse and I haven't had much trouble since.

Good heavens. How long are you supposed to do that? I know the temptation to get cleaned out, but Im not so sure that it is how things work with this stuff.

I'm on Day 8. Going back and forth from having good days to bad days. Ab pain and no sleep last night, but the weekend was good. Going to try to tough it out 'til Wed.

Wow. Good luck Andrew. I hope you do well. Sometimes I fast 3 or 4 days before starting the BTC diet. I find that it helps flush out the system, but I'm not sure if a fast for any extended period of time would 'cure ibs' although it may subside some symptoms.
If it works, please let us know. I'm very interested. Once again, good luck!

OOooouch!!! Just hearing the words Lemonaide and Cayanne Pepper is enough to make my stomach sick. I can't handle anything spicy or citrusy. Also, if I let my stomach go to long without food, I run into BIG problems. I think, like some of the others have said, there is nothing to absorb the natural acids in your stomach, so it is bound to irritate your intestines. This in addition to the acid from the lemons. I really hope it works out for you, but part of me is very weary of the effectiveness of this fasting recipe.

What's BTC? Hmm, well, my thinking is that it would clear out my system, thus provided relief. It may have done the opposite, being that I had quite a few bad nights. It's definitely not for the faint of heart. Is there any arguments for fasting helping IBS, I wonder. If nothing else, it's good to have a cleaned out system. I'm on my last day. Tomorrow I come off of it drinking OJ for 2 days. That's probably not too bright either, but I might as well stick it out now.

I won't know for a few days if it really worked, but it certainly isn't a "cure" for IBS, or really even a relief for that matter. I had as many bad days as I normally do, so it wasn't worse. Spicy doesn't seem to bug me, but I'm thinking citrus could be a trigger. Thanks for the good wishes.

By BTC, I mean 'break the cycle.'
Come off of the fast very slowly and only add safe things in first, or you might get dizzy and light-headed. Very unpleasant.
I have ibs-c so I can understand your desire to clean out your system. To support your theory on fasting, I used to take a laxative and then fast for about a week. I would experience no symptoms. But then, of course, once I start eating again they would all come back.
I personally believe that fasting helps me. Relieves some symptoms. But I usually only fast with water and benefiber, and I don't do it too often. Between fasts I follow Heather's guidelines flawlessly and eat/drink nutritional foods such as cereal and soy milk and fruit.
