This is very descriptive and embarrassing, and long so I am sorry, but I need someones opinion on this please.
Since I have had IBS for over 20 years, I have found that I have a hard time explaining my evacuation situation to a doctor. I Want to say I am and IBS-D because when I go, it kind of explodes out, and I have to go many times through the morning until done. I have bad discomfort after any meal and the feeling that I may have an episode and have to get to the bathroom quick, but even with the discomfort going on I still need to assist evacuation manually. Since I have to force extremely during every episode, doesn't that make you think C, but the fact is that as far as consistency goes, it is semi shaped, ribbon like and dozens of small peices, and towards the end, about shapeless. When flushed turns to gravy. I know it sound gross, but what the hell am I? I even bleed occationaly from all the forcing, but it is not due to hard dried out stools. I feel as if I no longer have any motility. Movements come with stomach aches and force and are somewhat explosive.I don't remember ever the last time I had normal contractions and said oh I have to go like a normal person. It has been so long I don't even remember what it would be like to go normal. So in a nut shell I go like this. Wake up in the morning with stomach pain and gas. Force with manual hand force on lower abdomen and it is like a gas explosion inside waiting to erupt. When it finally does you can imagine how things come out, and this goes on every morning for 2 hours until I feel like it is okay enough to go to work, but sometimes I am back in that bathroom pushing on my lower left abdomen, feeling those horrid gas pockets and pushing them out. It is like giving birth everyday. I end up soaked with sweat I get these red marks on my lower abdomen like hickies from pushing so hard. I can not get all this gas out any other way and I can't have a movement until the gas comes out. That seems to be my most horrible of problems, once the gas explodes out so does everything else, but it takes so long to get it all out. Going to the bathroom has become such a procedure that it completely drains me when I am done. I wake up every day at 4:30 a.m. just so I can walk out the door at 8:00 a.m. I need 3 hours every morning of everyday of my life to get to where I need to go. There has never once been an exception. I can't go to work, socialize or live any kind of life, if I don't do this procedure every day to aid evacuation. This is how I go to the bathroom for 20 years. How do you make someone understand this. But it is the only way I can make myself be able to walk out the door and go to work. Do you understand that I have to live, I have to take my child to school, I have to get to work on time, I can't wait around for when my gas and bowels decides it will explode out of me, I have to be places, I can't afford to stay home and not work, if I don't do this I am crippled for the day. It is the only way I can control my life so that I can exist. What is this? I have never heard anyone who has had to do this. I don't even remember how I got to this place. When I eat toast and water, the bowels movements are not as explosive, but I still have to do this routine in order to go. No matter how mild the food it does not change the fact that the bowels and the gas are trapped and need assistance to leave the body. I call it the deflation process. I think my bowels are just plain shot from all these years of torture. Any insight?

You don't mention if you have you been using acacia fibre, drinking plenty of water, following the IBS diet or drinking fennel tea? By using these remedies you should see some relif over time.

I too have had this IBS problem 20 yrs or longer. Not to the extent that you discussed but it made my life hell for many years. I'm sorry you are having such a tough time. I know the misery of not being able to go anywhere until my bowel settled down.

The diet and other suggestions have given me some normalcy for the first time. The one thing that helped me with consistency is Acacia. I also take Immodium daily. Not sure what your diet and supplements are but hope you get some relief soon.

Hi Whoopie, I've had similar problems. Miralax has helped
alleviate them. I take almost two doses of Miralax per day.
It sounds like you may have mechanical pooping problems on
top of the IBS. You should have an anorectal manometry test
done, and possibly an MRI defacography also. Forcing BM's is
generally not a good idea. I did it with water and ultimately
ended up having a stroke. -Bob

I had the same symptoms except having to push on my tummy. I would massage my lower back but I would still have problems throughout the day. If I travel I would have to get up 3 hrs early and start using the bathroom and taking immod. etc.

Now though the diet and following the guidelines have helped for daily life. I'm still working on traveling though. I live in a small town so to go the Walmart or the movies or anything I still have a few problems but not anything like what I used to have.

I saw some relieve after a few weeks, maybe a month, but it took several months for me to feel like I could trust myself to go out.

Just keep trying.
