I am happy to report that I had zero problems with backpacking! I didn't stay completely strict and still didn't have a backwoods flareup. This is how it went:
Friday AM I had my malt o meal as always and we left home at 6:30. I was afraid I had not pooped enough before leaving home. Then almost to our destination I actually finished in a gas station bathroom and for me that was an accomplishment. Then we started hiking about 11:00; it was hot and we hiked really hard with heavy packs. I think I also had eaten a luna bar and a take 5 PB bar and maybe something else. Then later for lunch we had toasted baguette (i had one mini baby bel light on my bread), pears, grapes and turkey jerky also honey roasted Gurley peanuts. I ate slowly and had a pep cap. For dinner we had Thai peanut chicken, spicy, over rice with some carrots. We also had some m&ms too.
In the morning I went in an outdoor latrine which was pretty scary with bugs and stuff and I was again proud of myself. I think I went twice. Had oatmeal and a luna later. Then for lunch I took a pep cap first and made chicken curry salad pitas. the sauce for me was 1 little pack of mayo and mandarin orange juice. I felt I should be safe and had 1 immodium after that. I don't think I needed it.
We then hiked some more in the heat. For dinner I made angel hair pasta with shallots and garlic, dried mushrooms and tomatoes and salmon from pouches. We also had some Mexican drink mix in our water. For dessert I mixed pudding mix and an individual size soy milk and poured into ready made mini graham crusts with some dark chocolate. Believe me they were awesome! I had very little gas or anything.
Then Sun AM I again pooped in a latrine, really quick because the bugs scared me, and we hiked back to our car for a few hours. Then we ate at a old timey hamburger/pie shop and I had a "grilled" but breaded walleye sandwich and a piece of raspberry rhubarb pie and a cherry coke! And no problems. At home for dinner I had a smoothie with acacia. The acacia is awesome! I missed my dose Friday night and still was just fine.
So I am reporting this so that people will not be scared off of backpacking with IBS!

Good golly, you ate better backpacking than I do in my kitchen!! Isn't it exciting to find you can one more fun thing? I'm leaving next week for a Navy reunion and it does give me little moments of "what if's"...you have given me a little more confidence to forge ahead. Thanks for sharing.

Hi LM, Wow, that is excellent! Glad to hear it. From the pic,
it looks like you picked a fantastic place to backpack. Where
was it? -Bob

We went to the Superior Hiking Trail along the western edge of Lake Superior. In Minnesota this is called the north shore and there are many places to hike and camp. We hiked along the Spilt Rock River, noted for big split rock formations.
