I'm in pretty much the same situation as you. My Doctor prescribed Zelnorm, that has hasn't worked. He upped my dosage (to 12mg twice a day! and still nothing after 4 weeks), and told me to take Miralax once a day. All it has done so far is made me even more bloated. I did read where it could do that, so I guess we have to be patient? I'm in pain, too. I thought I had the beginning symptoms of a kidney infection, and saw my family doctor for it. He took a listen to my belly, and said it's my bowel. :-( I just found this site, and went to the supermarket and bought some rice cakes, carrots and rice krispies cereal. I hope that will do for a start for the weekend!

Hi there!
First let me say that I sympathize with your situation. I'm IBS-C as well, and sometimes I'd LOVE a good case of diarrhea. (And for the record, I mean no disrespect to all the IBS-D'ers on the board ... I have tremendous compassion for what you all have to endure.)
I just recently started taking Glycolax (generic of Miralax), and it does require a bit of patience to get adjusted to it. One of the notes on my bottle says that it can take 2-4 days to produce a BM, so I don't think you're outside the norm. You might call your doc and see if you can take the dose twice a day 'til you get things moving. I've read posts on here from people who take 3 doses every single day. I just had a barium enema last week, so I upped my dosage to 3 times a day for a few days after just to clear the dang barium out of me.
As far as the bloating ... I know - it's the worst . I had it too in the beginning, but thankfully, it subsided after I'd been on the stuff for a week or so. If you want, check out the yoga poses on this board that are specifically for bloat. The one where you "stand" on your shoulders is a little challenging, but it did seem to make me feel a little better while I was bloated and my system was adjusting to the Glycolax.
Bottom line is that as hard as it seems, you really do have to exercise patience right at the start. I know how hard that is to pull off when all you want to do is POOP, for crying out loud ... but hang in there. Hopefully the Miralax will end up being as helpful for you as it has been for me.

Hi Clynn, From what you've said , it should be working. Are you just taking one 17 gram dose? If so, take two instead, that should help. Also, you might try drinking gatorade or some- thing like it, that will help evn more than the water. Many GI' s use a 257 gram bottle plus 64oz of gatorade as a colonoscopy prep. -Bob

Try taking first thing in the am, on an empty tummy, wait 15 minutes or so and eat something. Sometimes I notice it to work better on an empty tummy and then eating afterwards gets things moving. If no bm in the next day, I would suggest adding a second dose in the evening, before dinner until things start going!
-------------------- Taking it one day at a time.....

I, too, feel your pain. But honestly, in my case, one dosage of Miralax would do absolutely NOTHING for me. Two dosages probably wouldn't do anything for me. The best effect I ever got from it is when I coupled it with Heathers Acacia.
And, unforunately, agreeing with others, it may take 4 days for a BM, even with the Miralax....which all of us C's know is terrible (not saying the D's have it any better.)
I also agree with maybe contacting your doctor to see if you can up your dosage.
I know this probably doesn't make you physically feel better, but maybe help you mentally a little!

I can only speak from experience. Any time I was on SSRI's my C would be worse. Miralax takes awhile to kick in but everything slides out. Give it a chance.
