Embarrassing BM question

I'm a C. I take Miralax and a bit of citrucel to help me go...and some triphala. Oh, and calcium/mag 2:1.

The problem is, my BMs have all been incomplete, painful, and so messy! I use so much TP trying to clean up even after just a tiny amount because it's so incomplete and not firm.

Is there a way to make them more complete and less messy? I always feel "dirty" and take baths all the time. I carry wet wipes with me everywhere. Is it too much to ask to just go to the bathroom and get most of it out without the horrible mess and incompleteness?

This is so embarrassing to talk about.

Hi Beth - this is one of my main problems, too! I've noticed that since I have introduced more IF with my daily smoothies and I upped my acacia dose from 3 TBs a day to 3 TB plus 1 tsp that I have been going a lot easier and firmer. I would try adding more IF to your diet, being sure to cushion with lots of safe SF.

Some of the "mess" may be because of the miralax. It works by pulling water into the colon and can make the stool more soft. I have the same problem. My answer, baby wipes! I buy them in large quantities at Costco and use them every time I poo. They don't irritate like over using toilet paper can and gets the job done!

I find that more IF makes me poo more but actually makes it more D like. I rarely have good, formed, regular poops but as long as its coming out on a more or less daily basis and not at high velocity speeds , I live with it.

Hi Beth, My BM's get like that if I drink too much water and
don't eat enough IF. I agree with MCV, up you're IF intake.
However, don't cushion it with too much SF as that will just
tend to make you more C. I don't know about the Triphala. I've
had better BM's since I stopped taking it, but I never was
taking more than 1500 mgs, usually just 1000. I don't know
what Dr.J said about it. Did he indicate that doses of 1000
or 1500 are useless? You may just want to cut it out. -Bob

Hi Michele, Say, are you drinking quite a lot of water, because
that(messy BM's) will happen if you take Miralax and drink too
much water. If you're drinking over 120oz of water per day, I
would cut that back. -Bob

More IF helps or hurts the situation?

...you had better BMs without the triphala? That's weird because I've recently cut down on the triphala to 2000mg, from the 4000mg) and I seem to be getting worse BM output and more pain.

Dr. J doesn't say anything about dose level. Just that 4000 is the max. Everything he says comes through Margo's emails though. I never get to ask him directly...or talk to him directly.

IF will help you go more, SF will make you C more. That being said, if I eat too much IF in a day with not enough SF, things get very messy. I guess I'm not being much help. It really is about finding the right balance. I'm not exactly stable so maybe I'm not the best one to give advice?!

Beth, Yes, I haven't taken any Triphala since before my stroke
. However, my BM's got better back in the beginning of March
when I took up Jaime's suggestion to eat more IF. Also, you
may not know it, but different brands of Triphala are not the
same. Some do contain that carscada segata or whatever the
heck it is. -Bob
