Don't Want To Get Left Back In School!!!

I was never officially diagnosed with IBS, but all of the tests that I've had done have shown nothing was physically wrong with me (and I have almost all of the symptoms for it). I've missed at least 4 weeks (or even 5) of school, so I'm trying to go on this 504 program that gives me more days that I can be absent. The only problem is my doctor won't diagnose me, so I can't go on the program (because I need a medical condition)! This could mean that I could possibly get left back for missing so many days of school, even though I've been keeping up with my grades!!! Please, does anyone have ANY suggestions?!

What kind of doctor have you seen? Is there a medical school or university in your area? I have had better success dealing with medical staff that are part of a teaching school.

I just go to this pediatric gastrologist (I'm 16). I haven't been to one from a medical university yet, though. Do you know if it's open to older teens, too?

Have you spoken with your parents about your concerns? Maybe it's time to see some one else... And yes, I believe that in a teaching school you will find better understanding. And they will see you with your parents consent. You really need to involve your parents as much as possible.

I'm currently trying to find another doctor now. I'll definitely keep in mind a medical university one.

im in the same situation you are man, im trying to graduate as a Jr> but have missed so many days that i dont know if i will be able to even graduate period. Schools these days, they just dont understand, and dont try either. My school's student services person still yells at me for being absent, and ive really wanted to go off on her, but have refrained. I just wish i could get things in order for the last 3 or 4 weeks of school.

thats my problem, its like my mom is tired of hearing me say anything. I tell her i need to see my Dr. and she goes off on her little fit of how "all he will do is this or that" and it really kind of makes things a LOT worse. I dont know what to do or say when im sick, or when i need to see the doctor. I just wish she would be a little more supportive.

Tierney, Hawkeye and Daliatree have a very good GI doc in NYC. Post a message for Hawkeye and he can clue you in. -Bob
