I'm just wondering how many other people have experienced substantial weight with IBS-D. Since I was diagnosed 3 years ago I have lost like 25 pounds. (Am only 5'2" so I'm really little now!) I feel that I'm too thin (even though by BMI I'm on the bottom of the healthy range.) I'm looking for some help trying to put on weight while adhering to the IBS diet. Anybody have a similar problem?

I'm not IBS-D but I've had a similar problem and I think it all just comes down to adding more calories to your diet. For me it's painful to eat and I was trying to find the right foods that work for me but unfortunately vegtables were about the only thing that don't cause pain for me and I was starting to lose a lot of weight. I just can't eat 2,100 calories a day of vegtables so I'm adding a lot more fish, chicken, turkey to make up the difference. Add the calories and do your best to find out the high calorie foods that cause you the least amount of pain and are a part of a balanced diet.

I gained considerable weight on the program. I'm a "D" also. For me, it was all the fantastic recipes, especially the cakes and goodies. Have you checked out the recipe board? OMG, I don't see how anyone could help but gain weight! Try the ADBs ("anti-depressant brownies"); they're guaranteed to put on the weight. How about Soy Dream Mocha Fudge soy "ice cream"?! INCREDIBLE! Or what about a fruit smoothie? Soy ice cream, fresh fruit, banana, honey -- yep, that should do it!

I've lost a little weight since I've struggled with IBS. I was already thin though. I'm about 5' 7 and weigh 110 pounds. I can't gain weight. I try and eat healthy and do indulge in cakes, cookies etc. (safe recipies) Still can't put it on. I am also a runner though so I have other factors thrown in. Have you tried smoothies and/or shakes with soy ice cream or something that might help put some weight on?

Yep, when my IBS-D was super bad I lost 20 lbs which was WAY too much to lose, I'm also short like you.

But guess what? Once my ibs was under control (through diet, Celexa and Imodium) I gained it all back. And now I am trying to lose some of it!!

So I think you should try to get stable and then you won't be pooping everything out and be able to keep your weight and even gain some.

I actually gained. It was when I finally started eating right for my IBS that I started losing -- but I have to really watch it -- or I gain it right back.

I've had IBS for 12 years and my weight FLUTCUATES!! constantly. When I was diagnosed I weighed about 100 lbs. I'm 5'-1". I ballooned in university to 180 lbs. Then I battled to regain myself from the large blob I had become. I was down to 118 in 1999 when I came home from Finland. I put on weight again, and was 160 lbs. I'm comfy now at 125 - 130 lbs depending on the day! For me, its an on-going battle of which jeans will fit today!

I am alternating, but I have lost 15 lbs since Dec 05. And I can't afford to lose it! Hoping diet will help...what have you tried? More caloric intake probably would help...
