I was told that I had IBS about 6 yrs ago after a long spell of health problems. I ate lots of easy to digest foods--oatmeal, potatoes, soy cheese, peas, etc. The problems just kept getting worse and I kept hearing the whole "sorry it's just ibs, so there's not much we can do" thing from doctors. I'm 5'8" and weighed 103 lbs. and could make no plans because I was so sick.
I'm a Christian and felt that the Lord was leading me to forget the doctors and eat what I wanted. I was actually doing much better. My symptoms were bothersome but not debilitating.
About a month ago, I saw an article about food allergies. It seemed to sum up all of the symptoms I've had for so many years. So last week I made an appointment with an allergist and it turns out I'm allergic to milk, casein, potatoes, oats, grapes, and coconut (4+) and other things to less of a degree. He put me on a 3 week elimination diet.
I feel like a new person!!!!
Just wanted to put this out there. The test is quite painless and puts to rest all of the misdiagnosis!!
Hope this helps someone else.
Kelly

I bet you feel so relieved! A real dream come true!

Did a traditional doctor do an actual allergy test? Or did you do some sort of alternative med intolerance testing?

Thanks...and yay for you!

He's a traditional allergist, but not a typical doctor...very thorough, kind, and understanding. He did a skin test with about 50 foods.

That's awesome, congrats! What kind of symptoms were you having before? Were you IBS-C or IBS-D? I wish we could all be so lucky.

Do all regular allergist doctors test for foods? I'm just wondering cause I need to see an allergy doctor some time, my allergies(the sneezy kind) are getting worse every year but I've never been tested or anything.
