Does Stevia Plus cause anyone problems?

It contains inulin in the form of FOS. There is a warning on this sight that people with bloat and/or gas should avoid this.

Any thoughts? Anyone not able to tolerate this that has tried it? I don't know if it helps or hurts.

I haven't found any problems with Stevia Plus. I was concerned about it at first too with the warning about gas/bloat as I have big problems with both. But I have not found that Stevia Plus bothers me. I add it to my Teecino which also has inulin, so again I was worried about drinking the Teecino with the Stevia Plus, but I still had no gas or bloat afterwards.

I had thought I was sensitive to inulin as I had tried Fiber Choice chewable tablets and had such bad, stinky gas afterwards. But...I now realize that although inulin is the first ingredient, that sorbitol was the second one (whoops!) and I've had bad gas and diarrhea after eating another product that had sorbitol. I've since tried the Fiber Choice tablets that aren't sugar free (so don't contain sorbitol) and have not had bad gas or anything afterwards. So I think it must have been the sorbitol.

Unfortunately, I even though I wasn't bothered by the Stevia Plus, I also don't think it helps me go (I'm now IBS-C after being on Wellbutrin ). I have better results from Acacia, oatmeal (which I know neither helps you, sorry!) and trying to get more IF into my diet. I already drink a ton of water and exercise. But maybe if I used Stevia Plus more often and consistently I'd notice a difference? The box just says four packets equal the amount of fiber in a bowl of cereal. But what kind of cereal are they comparing it to? The fiber amount could be widely different if they're comparing it to say, All-Bran vs Cheerios.

Don't know if this is any help or not.

(By the way, I also do GF, except for the oatmeal. I found that wheat give me terrible earaches (so painful) even though the docs say my ears look great and clean and I've tested negative on an allergy test. But by a random elimination of wheat, my earaches disappeared. I've since repeated this by eliminating wheat and adding it back several times and each time I have no earaches when I don't eat wheat, but when I start eating wheat again I get painful earaches - strange, huh?! So if you ever have good GF ideas, let me know!)

I m one of the few that does get gassy and bloaty with Stevia Plus and Teecino. I guess I do have a problem with inuin afterall. It is not enough bloating to make me quit eating at. I just use less of it. If I am not mistaken, I think that there is plain Stevia out there - without the Plus (inulin). I am going to have to double check this. I believe they have a website. At any rate, if you can tolerate it, or find a Stevia without the Plus, it is an excellent sugar alternative.

How soon after using the stevia plus do you get the bloat? I can't tell if mine is from the dinner I ate or the stevia I put into my fennel tea afterwards.

I have a hard time figuring out any triggers because I can't seem to trace it back to something definitive.

The do make regular Stevia, but others have found the "plus" to help their BMs. That's what I was hoping for.

Good to see you!

Hello Beth
What is it about Stevia which is supposed to help the BM?? Is this help for d. or c.?
I am in the uK and we cannot get Stevia here but I have just managed to get some samples from USA because I now have the added problem of Diabetes and I have really struggled to find something to sweeten my porridge in the morning (I used to have syrup!!). I replaced the syrup with a banana but my sugars are still too high on that so am now trying stevia hoping that I can order some on the net.
If anyone can help me on that I would be very grateful - also I have noticed there are different types of Stevia and I do not know the best one to get taking into account my ibs.d and diabetes.
Many thanks in anticipation.
Judith

Hey Augie,

It is usually pretty soon after I eat/drink something with Stevia Plus - within a few minutes I start getting that gassy sensation and my intestines start moving around. When I put it in a hot drink like tea, I will start feeling intestinal sensations while I am drinking it. I try to only use the smallest amount when I do use it.

It's the Stevia Plus that's suppose to help with BMs. It contains inulin. 2 packets equal the fiber in one bowl of cereal. (who knows what type of cereal they are referring to though).

The inulin, though, can cause bloat and gas for people. The stevia Plus has helped some C people.

It has to be labeled Stevia PLUS in order to have the inulin. Regular stevia is just plain stevia. Both Sweet Leaf and Now are common brands. I use a cheaper version I get at Trader Joes (the sell two types....I get the one without dairy added.
