I found out I am pregnant. Even though it is the second time, I didn't have IBS with my first pregnancy (or maybe that is when it started, I'm a bit unclear). Anyway, I'm only seven weeks today and I pretty much have uncomfortable gas EVERY day. No matter what I eat. I upped my dose of Primal Defense to 3 capsules a day right around the time I would have gotten pregnant. Each time I upped my dose I got gassy, so I don't know if what I'm experiencing is normal pregnancy gas or my inablity to tolerate the Primal Defense.

Anyone with problems with Primal Defense have painful/uncomfortable gas from it?

Or those that have been preganant with IBS felt REALLY gassy, all the time?

I wish I knew what it was! I just don't want to stop the Primal Defense if it is just normal pregnancy pains and it is actually helping me.

Thanks
Amber

are already relaxing my muscles so much! At least the doc said levels of progesterone won't increase anymore from this point. It just stinks because it's already kicking in my heartburn, making fennel tea out of the question!

It couldn't hurt to back down the dosage and see if that helps. new

Probiotics, while doing their "good work", can cause a lot of gas especially in higher doses. This should right itself after a few weeks, but backing down the dose couldn't hurt, could it?

Congrats!

Has the gassiness gone on longer than usual than when you upped your dosage the other times? If it is going on longer than usual, maybe it's the pregnancy, or maybe your dosage is high for you right now. You could try stopping them to see what happens, or go back to your previous dose. If you have the same symptoms, it's probably the pregnancy. Btw, I've never been pregnant so I don't know what symptoms or discomforts are involved with that, but I have read that taking probiotics during pregnancy can be beneficial but they didn't specify what kind of probitoics, nor what dosage.

Hey Amber!

I would try backing down on the Primal Defense or stop taking it completely for a few days to see what happens. It could very well be the PD that is making your gas worse. It could be something else (hormones, stress, etc.) You won't know until you eliminate the PD and see what happens.

I know I've told you this before, but PD made me awfully gassy and made my D worse. The day after I stopped taking it I felt so much better and the longer I was off it I continued to improve.

If PD is the problem, then just get a good probiotic at your HFS or online. I use Primadophilus or Flora-Q. Both seem to work well for me and no side effects.

Let me know what happens!

Amanda

Last night I was bloated, but not in any pain. It was the first night I didn't have gas pains during middle of the night feedings with my 11 month old! It was great!

I appreciate everyone's advice, but I was too afraid to back off the probiotics for fear that they were actually helping me. I've been adjusting my diet every day, changing things gradually to see what is making my gas pains worse. I tolerate things SO differently while pregnant! High carb things give me the worst gas pains, but I've been able to eat low fat cheese just fine. Which is nice since I have the weirdest food aversions. I don't have cravings while pregnant, but almost all the things I use to eat the most make me puke! (like chicken, bread, saltines, pasta, etc.)
Since my gas has improved, I'm hoping that it's just normal "pregnancy pains" and that I'll be able to continue controlling them by finding what works with my body during this time!
I figure it can't be the primal defense since things have improved, right?

I also just wanted to say sorry for not posting a "thank you" sooner- I've been SO busy planning and buying things for my son's first birthday party next weekend.

I'm trying really hard to control my stress level and I think that's probably helping my stomach a bit too...

Hopefully the Primal Defense, which apparently isn't causing the problems since I was fine yesterday and didn't change my dose, is doing some good since I'm spending so much on it! I like to think it is at least. I guess I shouldn't have second guessed the probiotic since I really do think I was doing better before getting pregnant...

oh what pregnancy does to you body and mind!

Thanks again everyone!!

Amber,

I have a bottle of Primal Defense. It's almost completely full...I think only about a week's worth of pills are gone. I'd be more than happy to send it to you..free of charge. It's just wasting space in my vitamin drawer, but I can't throw it away b/c it cost so damn much!;) Let me know if you want it.

Amanda
