I was just prescribed Miralax (my doc called it the "Cadillac" of fibers...lol).

What do you mix your with? Can you put it in coffee?

I mix it in juice. I have put it in coffee, too. The container will have the directions.

Miralax really isn't a fiber at all. It is an osmotic laxative, it works by pulling water into the colon. I would still recommend taking a fiber supplement in addition to it. I will mix one spoon of Acacia and one cap of Miralax in an 8oz glass. I fill it about 1/3 full of water and stir, than fill with Juice. I usually use a Tropicana Twister flavor. I only mix it with water first to cut the juice, its not really necessary. I don't drink coffee at all, never have but as far as I know its ok to mix with hot beverages as well! Remember, you can adjust your dose as needed when necessary. I'm usually good with one cap a day, sometimes I even get away with 1/2 cap a day. However, when I travel, I always get backed up so then I usually go to 2 caps a day!

...but coffee isn't allowed on the EFI diet. I put it in my herbal tea! No taste at all.

Personally, I can do coffee ok. I'm not actually doing the EFI diet either.

Thanks for the Miralax info. I mixed it in my coffee and it mixed up wonderfully. I was expecting clumpiness. But, since this isn't really a fiber, that makes sense.

I'm only on my second dose. It hasn't moved things along yet, but I'm feeling bloated.

Miralax can make you feel more bloated for the first couple of weeks. Try to stick with it. I find Roliads with the simethicone to be helpful! Be sure you are drinking lot of other fluids. Miralax needs lots of water in your body to work! If things haven't moved after tomorrow's dose, you may want to consider adding in a second dose at night for a couple of days until you get cleared out a bit! I've never found miralax to be clumpy or gritty although it can have a little bit of an odor, thats why I don't mix it with just regular water!

What does the SFS do in addition to the Miralax? About how many grams of SFS do you take a day?

My GI told me to only take the Miralax and no SFS because of the bloating/gas.

What does the SFS help you with that the Miralax doesn't?

Thanks!

Michelle, Oh, absolutely you can put it in your coffee. That's
exactly what I do. It dissolves very fast in hot fluids. I
don't get get your doc's comment. Miralax is just polyethylene
glycol, it has no fiber in it what so ever. It's just a good
osmotic laxative. I would say it's the cadillac of osmotic
laxatives, but nothing to do with fiber. -Bob

I think the SFS just help to keep the stool formed and helps to keep the colon regulated. The miralax pushes things through but it doesn't keep the colon expanded, without the SFS the colon can cramp more. I will use a spoon of Acacia in the morning and usually take 2-4 fibercon pills later in the day. I don't know how many grams that is, its just what I've found to work best for me.
