Hi Michele, SFS can prevent cramping to some degree, but it
does not keep the stool formed or forms it up, actually IF
does that. IF plays the role of a binding agent in stool
formation which is why it is so critical for C's to consume
as much of it as they can. What SF does, in addition to acting
as a gut calmer as Heather has pointed out, is that it incre-
ases the water content of the stool which softens it, and
enables large stools to pass easily through a small anal
sphincter. -Bob
