i came across a pamphlet on IBS in a organic market a while back and i was reading the list of symtoms and one that really stood out for me was "frequent urination" which is so true in my case..
i was wondering how this is connected to ibs?
and if anyone else has noticed that they are constantly running ti the washroom in the middle of the night?
hehe me and my funny questions.

I pee a lot and I have noticed my bloating is linked with it. I get bloated when I have had to pee and held it through the day and peeing can relieve some pressure sometimes too. I think the pressure makes you think you have to pee more often and that would be the main link you refer to. In that it is like pregnancy. But I believe I have other links as well. Also drinking a lot of water and tea will help my bloating if I can pee really often. I went 6-7 times at work today and just about died on the way home. At night while trying to fall asleep I will pee several times and in the morning before I wake up, several times even though I am dehydrated. It is all very annoying!

IBS-A for 20 years with terrible bloating and gas. On the diet since April 2004. Remember this from Heather's information pages:
"You absolutely must eat insoluble fiber foods, and as much as safely possible, but within the IBS dietary guidelines. Treat insoluble fiber foods with suitable caution, and you'll be able to enjoy a wide variety of them, in very healthy quantities, without problem." Please eat IF foods!

Hi Kristen, Yes, there is something called Irritable Bladder
Syndrome that sometimes accompanies IBS, but I don't think
it's quite that common. More likely your urinary problem
is a separate problem. Once a night is not too bad, lot's
of normal people have to do that. I typically have to get
up two to three times a night due to an enlarged prostate.
If it gets worse, you're probably going to have to see a
urologist. -Bob

it is seperate from IBS; however, they are often found together. IBS and fibromyalgia and endometriosis all up your chances for having interstitial cystitis. If you have pain/burning, pressure when you urinate, and things like that...I would suggest visiting a urologist. Also...if you pee frequently and this wakes you in the night...you could have an overactive bladder which can also be helped by a urologist.

HTH...if you have any questions about IC don't hesitate to ask!

When I was younger, I had a very overactive bladder, and because of it, I had to go to the bathroom often, sometimes every five minutes. All of the doctors I went to claimed that they couldn't help, and that I could "grow out of it". I eventually did. Is this normal to just "grow out of it" and do you know how? I could never understand it...

i have that same problem! but its b/c i drink alot of water. i almost pee every 45ish minutes?? its embarrassing and it sucks!! i used to drink coffee alot and always had to pee after that. since then no matter what i drink goes thru me like coffee and i always have to pee! hehe--sorry but yah--i dont think its something you should be especially concerned about if youre drinking crazy amounts of water. if youre not then maybe see a doctor. good luck!

Hey,

I don't want to alarm you, because frequent urination can be caused by quite a lot of things...including IBS, or, as others have mentioned, increased consumption of liquids on Heather's diet...but in my case, the frequent urination I was experienced was caused by untreated type 1 diabetes. If you have pretty regular doctor's visits, I'm sure it's nothing to worry about, but if you haven't been in a while, and you have symptoms that could point to a more serious condition, I would suggest talking to him/her about it.

But honestly, it's probably just all that tea!
